Quickfix drop-out issue?
I'm just curious if anyone has experienced this since the new patch? I've always been able to run my ASIO drivers at 64 buffers without a problem. I can still do it now, but I have to be recording something. The audio engine will not stay lit up. So I decided to revert back to the regular X1b patch, and it's working normal again. Anyone else notice this? I'll explain what I mean by normal in case I've confused anyone. At 64 buffers, I can run VSTi's without a problem....drum modules for example. I just can't keep the audio engine lit at idle when I'm down that low. I have to press play or record something...but I can't audition anything at all. Now, the strange thing....playback and recording is fine. No drop-outs, no pops or crackles...but as soon as I stop playback, that engine goes dead and I see a red drop-out signal. Revert back to the last patch, I'm fine. Anyone else?

As someone else just mentioned in another post - you probably mean the Quick Fix? The Hotfix was what came after X1a I think.

Thanks Chuck....that's what I mean in my first post when I said "So I decided to revert back to the regular X1b patch, and it's working normal again." "Revert" meant "rollback". LOL! So you can get down to 64 buffers on your ASIO and your audio engine stays on with a drum synth loaded?

I don't think I can ever get down to 64 buffers on my ASIO :) Sorry I can't help comment on your issue there. Seems really odd that X1b Quickfix would have any effect like that. I will get to try some more tests on it tonight. So far I only had enough time to install and do a quick test that it was running. Then I ran into an issue with previewing loops at project tempo - because I forgot that you need to choose this as an option. Anyway I'm getting off topic.

Hi Danny: I can run X1b build 244 (QuickFix) using 64 samples hardware buffer size with no dropouts. Before the QuickFix, were you getting the "...audio device disconnect messages when playing back projects of various sample rates?" I wasn't getting those messages. So, that may be why X1 is still running well for me. If you were, maybe the fix for that issue in the QuickFix isn't working for you or is causing you problems somehow, and you probably should report it. What audio interface are you using and are the drivers up to date?

Somerset: Thanks..I have a few new developments I'll share. Thomas: Thanks a lot for trying it for me. No, I've never had any problems or disconnect messages. Here's the latest update after more testing. I have no problems playing back audio or recording with my sample buffer set to 64. What happens is, as soon as I stop playback, the drop out happens. I have to manaully engage the audio engine at that point if I want to audition anything or for example, say I'm in piano roll and hear something I don't like. Normally, I'd stop playback at that point and either press the notes that were recorded or play the little keyboard to the left. I can't do any of that unless I press the audio engine button. One I press it, it WILL stay lit nd I have no problems auditioning sounds at that point. If I press play, as soon as I stop, there's the red light again...but it never drops out during recording or play back. Just when I hit stop. I tried to increase the drop out ms from 500 to 1000 and then 2000 but it didn't do any good. I made those changes with Sonar closed of course. :) In my first post I said the audio engine wouldn't stay on. I need to clarify that. It WILL stay on after I press it. But as soon as I press play and then stop playback, the red light comes on and I have nothing unless I press the audio engine or press play again. I had thought this was because of the quick fix, but this is not the case at all. It does it with the regular X1b patch and also does it in 8.5. I don't think I've had this problem all along because I never remember this happening before. I really don't know. But it's all consistent with every version of Sonar. I'm using a Layla 24/96 in this particular instance and the drivers are the latest and only version available for Win 7. So it's probably me and something I just may have never noticed before. Most times when I record a drum kit or something, it's the last thing I do. After the track is recorded, I normally set my sample buffers to a higher number like 128 or 256 while editing my midi parts. But I'm just about certain I have done lots of editing without touching my ASIO buffers. I definitely would have noticed this before. It's gotta be me just losing my mind over here. ;)

I have the Layla 24 also. Using X1b I do get a clicking noise when I start and stop but the audio engine doesn't stop. This only seems to happen in bigger projects no matter what buffer size I choose.

I'm not getting any of that, soundtweaker. That's what puzzles me. As soon as I hit that stop button, that engine shuts right down...yet it plays my entire project fine without any clicking or actual drop outs during the entire performance. As a matter of fact, my cpu is not going any higher than 25% and when I press stop on the transport, it doesn't ramp up or anything. It drops actually to like 22% and then I get the red drop out warning right when I press the space bar to stop playback. It makes a little noise when it stops, but nothing while it's playing. As for your noise, what to you have your I/O's set at? I run mine at 512 over here. If you're at 128 or 256, that may be why you get that little noise on larger projects. I got tired of constantly setting mine for different I/O's for different projects (prefs/audio sync and caching) and just leave them at 512 now. Try that and see if it stops the noise you get when you start and stop.

You might try deleting the aud.ini and letting Sonar rebuild it. I was having issues with some soft synths dropping out and hanging and deleted aud.ini and it fixed my problem.Different problem I know but it might work for you.

Weird Danny, Im sitting here trying to duplicate it but I just completed a fresh clean install X1 x64 with all patches. Cant get it to duplicate by loading SD3. I have mine set at 44100/24 with the 64 bit DPE checked. Mine stays lit coming into or launching a fresh project. It does go out when I select it in the tool bar.

Mine was acting very similar with one of the other patches before doing a complete reinstall. Cant remember if it was at X1a or the Hotfix.

Now this is what mine does do, Audio Engine is ON as I come into the project. If I shut it off and bring up SD3 and try and play from there, nothing until I turn Audio Engine back on in the toolbar. I just figured it is because I have it checked as ON in preferences.

This has nothing to do with the quickfix since there are absolutely no changes that affect this area. Most likely its some change in your environment that changed the load causing the drop out. Have you tried rebooting? :)

Thanks digi. I probably could use a new a new ini file like teego mentioned. When you mention you "have it checked as on in preferences" what exactly do you mean? Noel: Yeah, as I stated in a later post....the quickfix had nothing to do with my issue after further testing. I just thought that was where it was coming from because I didn't notice it until then. It's probably always existed in my setup but for the life of me, I sure don't remember this ever happening. I'm gonna try a new ini file and see if it gets any better. Yes I've rebooted and only run my recording box when I need it. We're starting to get thunder storms around here already, so I never leave it on.

Sorry Im not in front of it at this moment but In the Preferences Audio Bit Depths I have it set to 24 instead of 16 bit-to the right of this is a check box for the 64 bit Double Precision Engine. I have that checked. I assume that means it will automatically be in the "ON" state when launching X1 unless it is turned off on the controll bar manually. Not sure though. Let me know if you want me to try anything for ya and Ill do my best to be detailed about it.
