Delay question

Why when I record a track the program automatically slightly shifts the whole track to the left?  It completely mangles the timing of the new instrument.

I'm not a technology guru by any stretch of the imagination, but it came time for me to get recording equipment and get to business.  I was under the impression I could just plug in and play, but I may be mistaken.  I would appreciate any help possible.

Processor:  Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.20GHz
    Windows 7 64-bit
    6.00GB RAM

How do I find out what sound card is in my computer?

I'm trying to record guitar, bass, and vocals through an M-Audio Fast Track Pro.

This particular problem is when I press stop to not record the track anymore it makes it so the play back comes in way too early.  Not to mention I have unwanted popping and crackles.

One thing is for sure: There is no serious DAW-software that is plug'n'play.
The hardware and must to be configured accordingly. The entry-entry-level apps like Audacity are another story.

That Fast Track Pro is your soundcard. Make sure that it is the only one selected in SONARs settings. Also, if you don't already have, use ASIO drivers and make sure they are the latest version. Note: ASIO4ALL is not real ASIO.

There's 1500 pages of info on your SONAR DVD. At least do the tutorials, but I recommend reading it all. That way you get the big picture about what can and can not be done.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Well - plug in and play could work with windows recorder (or something like that), but a real DAW needs some setup before you can do a proper recording. Did you go trough the setup as described in the starters manual that came with your X1 box?

First - a Core 2 Duo at 2.2GHz seem to indicate that you are using a E4200 processor. While it is possible to run X1 on that, it IS below the specs given as minimum requirement for this program. One of my computers is using an E5200, and while it works good, but I think it that is the bare minimum.

Secondly - You do not specify what drivers you are using and what latency setting. The problem you describe looks like a high latency problem. Before we can help you, you have to give more details.

In general - X1 is much more than a piece of simple recording software. Accordingly, there is a little learning to do before you can use it at it's bare minimum.

What are ASIO drivers and how do I get them?

Where do I go to select it as the only one?

Is the DVD on the install disk?

hes right.that should be set to asio..make sure you got the latest drivers.im pretty sure m audio just updated those recently.also dig in dude..you got some researching to do..there no such thing as plug in and play..we are talking x1 here right?cause if not its going to be different.i comend you on starting to learn digital recording on such an advanced version.some are better off starting on something like mc5 or homestudio 7xl.but it is what it is..hope all goes well.get back to us and let us know about the po corn.that should go away as long as you set up your drivers properly.dont woory either..youll pick it up..it took me a few months to get the hang of it.but that was 12 years ago.so youve got some catching up to do..lol..dont get overwhelmed take your time.just dont work beyond your means or you will get discourged and may give up...but dont..its well worth the fortunes.its the future of recording and the future is here.welcome to the begining of your adventure.

im hoping before you pluged in that fast track you installed a drivers disc?please tell me you did?asio is the driver that makes your soundcard work..your soundcard is that fast track.it converts analog into digital sound..before you pluged into the computer with the fast track did you read the directions for the fast track install?..you need to install the drivers first.either from the disc or their website.if not than likely windows 7 has chosen a driver for it and its not going to work right AT ALL>
