Does anyone use Vienna Ensemble Pro over a network with Sonar?

Further to my post re the Spiritoso sample library which it would seem is definitely 64 bit only, I asked regading using this over a network - I have three Computers set up using FX Teleport - unfortaunetly FX teleport is getting old, has not been updated for some time and no longer seems to be supported.

Someone suggested using Vienna Ensemble Pro.
What I am thinking of doing is this:-
1) My current Sonar 8.5.3 set up on Windows XP 32bit is rock solid and does most nearly everything I want
2) However I do use Kontakt a great deal, at the moment without a problem
3) Unfortunately The new Spiritoso library for Kontakt is 64 bit only, meaning I can't use it - and I can only see this becoming more and more commonplace
4) I was thinking of next year upgrading to windows 7 64bit and Sonar X1, but after all the problems with this I am very hesitant to do this whilst I have so many projects on the go - we have a new CD about to be released with Devine Lie and I have two other projects that will come to fruition in the next year or so - we use Sonar for everything normally - with the new CD this is being mixed and mastered in the UK professionally, but apart from that, it's a total Sonar produced CD
5) So I thought of converting one of my computers on the network to Windows 7 64bit - then using this as a slave (as I do in FX Teleport) run any / all the 64 bit libraries that come out in the coming couple of years on this computer, accessing the libraries using Vienna Ensemble Pro over the network to my main machine, which will be running Sonar 8.5.3 32bit on Windows XP
6) Perhaps I could also upgrade my Sonar once I am happy with the stability of the Windows 7 machine to Sonar X1 - hopefully that may be a little more sorted than it would appear to be by then ( hopefully it will not be SonarX2 with a load of new bugs!) - I could load Sonar X1 64bit on my new machine, whilst keeping an instance of 8.5.3 on my old machine just in case - this might be a good way to do it, and would certainly offer some some comfort against future problems with Sonar X1/2 whatever

Has anyone tried this or does anyone have any views if this would work?
Love to get some ideas on this
Cheers
Nigel

Bump! I too have a WinXP 32-bit machine and may take this approach of temporarily networking 2 machines via Vienna Ensemble Pro if this is feasible. Can anyone chime in? Or more importantly, Bajan, did you ever attempt this? What happened if so? Thanks JB

    Sincerely,

    Hi
Well yes I did but only recently.

What I eventually decdied to do was to:-
    1) Brand new Computer 64 bit Windows from Jim at Studiocat
    2) Sonar X1 Expanded in 64 bit
    3) Loaded all the system heavy stuff (Kontakt, Spectrasoncis etc) on the new system
    4) Added the new 64 bit computer to the existing network
    5) Added Vienna Pro to new system then to the old machines - Vienna Pro allows 3 licences, but you have to have a dongle for each instance! Which actually worked in my favour as of course you can install Vienna Pro on any machine and just move the dongle around - so I have all 4 machines connected (and I had a couple of old redundant syncrosoft dongles from IK Multimedia stuff)
    6) As I said I have only just finished this mammoth reorganisation of my systems and have  only been road testing so to speak.

    Conclusions so far
    1) The new system from Jim is so powerful that the real need to have this sort of set up seems somewhat negated - but I have it set up now so will keep it as it is for the time being - if nothing else I now have a total back up should my main machine go down for any reason as I kept my Old machine (XP 32 bit Sonar 8.5.3 ) as it was and of course it was working very well and was stable - my only main reason for changing now was I wanted to try and "future" proof my systems for a few years - I have also taken the decision after all the numerous "Software" fiascos (Kore, Muse, Powercore etc etc) to move back as far as possible to Hardware, synths in particular
    2) Vienna Pro was a bit fiddly to set up - if during initial scan it "hung" on a particular dll, it was a real pain to overcome.
    3) I would say without doubt FX Teleport was a better design - simple and quite elegant - with FX Teleport you could use synths and effects on other machines - so far with Vienna Pro it only seems to work with synths
    4) I have had a couple of programs (admittedly old programs) that worked with FX teleport that will not work correctly with Vienna pro - the two most important to me of these older programs were Darbuka and Latigo - both of these would not appear to work directly with later versions of Sonar, so I thought that was the end of their usage as well - UNTIL for some reason I decided to try and load directly to the new machine (Windows 7 64 bit) Of course loaded in 32 bit and they work Perfectly in Sonar X1.....strange but true
    5) The new machine from Jim, plus 64 bit windows and Sonar X1 SO FAR seems very stable indeed - no crashes, hangs etc - in fact no problems to speak of whatsoever - I have to admit I had not upgraded to X1 after reading all the "horror" stories on the forum - I do think however that perhaps the problems were more "old machine" / "not powerful enough machine" related - X1 seems very stable on my new set up. But again perhaps Cakewalk should have considered system requirements in development - for instance I have X1 working what would seem to be perfectly - what if Cakewalk launched next year a product that was radically different in system requirements to X1 and when I loaded it onto my perfectly stable system I had all sorts of problems - I can see I would not be happy to say the least!!!
    Hope this is helpful
