[opinion alert]
AI has been and will always be a popularity contest, not a singing contest. Even though real skill and talent are sometimes recognized, it is more by accident than by any discernable degree of "taste" or "intelligence". Most of the time, it comes down to looks, clothes, hair and makeup. The fact that the "idol" can sing is almost an afterthought.
This year is actually unusual in that many of the remaining contestants are excellent vocalists. This year's crop of hopefuls includes some artists instead of models who can (sort of) carry a tune. As a result, the AI audience may accidentally pick a real singer to win.

I agree with you and while the musician and vocalist in me only wants the best vocalist to win, the "performer" in me says that appearance and performance and crowd charisma is also part of the equation. it's like that in the real world, too. I'm not the prettiest dog in the house, but I can get the crowd going and that's an important part of being a performer.
