HELP Sonar 7 Producer problems, audio dropouts.. etc.

Hello, I'm new to recording. I just Purchased an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra, cheap mxl mics, and sonar 7 producer. I am using a Samsung R580 laptop to record with. It has an i5 processor, 4gb of ram... more than enough to run my setup.

First off, I went in the otions audio tab and selected ASIO driver mode. Then I selected the drivers for My M-Audio fast track. I hit record and it worked. Then all of a sudden a box comes up and says an audio dropout has occured. I had everything closed off, only program running is sonar. I have updated the drivers for the m-audio interface, and sonar.
Next problem. I click the dropdown menu from the input in audio track. move the pointer over M-Audio usb 2.0 ASIO and nothing happens. Before another box would come out and you could choose your input. Whats wrong with this? I cannot seem to make anything work properly. Please get back to me asap so I can get this stuff up and running :D

Raise your ASIO buffer in options/audio menu. Click the asio tab and raise them
Make sure you have the latest m audio drivers from their website..

Your other problem may be that you did not check the driver boxes in options/audio/drivers

laptops typically have 5400 rpm hard drives to save power.  an external 7200 rpm hard drive might help your situation.

just before the dropout, look at your CPU and DISK meters and see which one is pegging red.

Hey guys, thanks for the responce. I just went in to try and work this, and I cannot choose an imput from My M-Audio interface from the I dropdown list on the track. When I drage my curser over the Maudio (in the dropdown menu), another box should appear and you can slect which imput you want. That box does not show up! I have gone in Options>Auido>drivers and all the M-audio drivers are selected. I have no clue what is wrong, I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have the updated drivers for the interface. I even tried the interace with the supplied ableton live 7 software and it worked. I cannot get it to work with sonar. and again, Sonar is the only thing running on my machine. Please get back with any information.. thanks alot :D

Hey, it was audio. For no reason, I didnt do anything differently. I opened it up fr the hundreth time, and it worked. I recorded some guitar playing for about a minute then my computer goes to a blue screen saying somehting about a crash dump, and that its possible recent software was installed improperly. ???? I restarted the computer, and sonar worked again. And then after about a minute of recording I hit the spacebar to end and it went to a blue screen and crash dumped. I I have about 12 gb remaining on my 100 gb C disc drive. Is that okay? the indicators in the lower right of the screen didnt go red or anything when it dumped on me.. so im not sure what this means

I dont like getting down below 20% free space. But 12% free space should not cause your issue..

Blue screen errors (BSOD) are caused by Driver errors or Hardware errors, not software. So you need to test your hardware for errors and make sure all your drivers are up to date and in working order with your OS
