multi fx plugin
Can anyone recommend a good fx plugin with a variety of fx built in? Preferably with phaser and bit reduction, but not essential. Free or cheap is also good. :)

I use Tone2's Warmverb for my multi-chain-effects (which despite its name pointing to it being a reverb only, is a true multi fx). Check it out, it's a high quality unit with a very comprehensive effects list.

An oldie but a goodie is the
LFX-1310
. Better for mangling than anything subtle, but I have found many uses for it. It's free.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Not free or cheap, but:

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.
