Is it Lag or Latency?

What is called when you play a note on your guitar and there is a delay (pause) at your speakers?

After upgrading to X1 and its recent update, i've had this problem.  I've tried all formats (wdm, asio, mme, andn wasapi (wassup?)) yet haven't got it synced.  I have exhausted many different settings in all driver modes.   I have loaded a song that was originally recorded in Sonar 4, and saved in 8.5.  I can get synchronized in monitoring (nothing playing or recording), but when i hit the spacebar in playback or recording it out of sync.  Then afterawhile it's out of sync in monitoring (stop mode).

AMD Athlon 64 Dual 3800+ 2.00 GHz
8 GB RAM
64 Bit Win 7
Presonus Audiobox all updated drivers

these are my current settings:   www.llanosmedia.com/latency.htm

Thanks Pat

I also have a dual Athlon, and thought I'd point out our machines don't meet the "minimum" settings specified for X1    They specify:  AMD Phenom Quad Core 9750 2.4 Ghz

For the most part, everything works but I start to have a lot of flakiness going on if I have more than 8 tracks and add several plugins...

I'm shopping NewEgg for a new mobo/CPU as we speak, actuallY!

Well I'll give it a try.  Thanks.  OK StarTekh, drivers updated.
And oh btw, everything was all with sonar 8.5.

Better!  But still a bit behind.  I also updated audiobox drivers.

update:  now its out of sync again.  After things are updated in audio options its fine but after a few minutes its out of sync again.

    Thanks Charlie,
As far as the system requirements, I've read there's hope.

    Here's the Good News!

I'm able to load some projects that don't have that 'out of sync' problem.  There is No delay when I play along with it.  Most were originally recorded in Sonar v4 and saved in 8.5.  I have always used external drum modules and no more than a couple of soft synths in my songs (just to let you know that I'm not 'track happy').

So. . . It may be something thats different between projects.  I hope its something simple.  I spent all day trying to figure this out.  Reworking entire projects is time consuming.  I'm no spring chicken with a whole life ahead of me.

One more thing:  I get a single click sound about every 20 seconds from my guitar as i'm recording or playing along with the project.  You can hear it in the recordings too.  Cables are good.  Anything else?

There have been significant updates to SONAR's audio engine and management of MIDI data since SONAR 4.
Also SONAR 8 and upward has been optimized for multi core CPU's with advanced levels of Level 2 and 3 onboard cache whiohc is not the case with the x64 3800+ processors.

I was able to run SONAR 8.5 on my office PC which ran a single AMD x64 4200+ CPU but on Win XP SP3. I'd hate trying to do that on WIN 7 x64 though as the processors just aren't up to the task.

You have enough RAm but I'd say your processors are not able to take advantage of some of the newer instruction sets that modern processors use and an OS like Win 7 need to run efficiently.

Which effects do you use in the out-of-sync projects? Some require latency, and thus are not very useful in a record or live-play situation.

I reinstalled.  It works fine with new projects.  I'll just use 8.5 on the earlier stuff.  Thanks, Pat
