Rattlesnake

We were packing yesterday and this guy crawled out from under the van:

So I snapped a few quick photos.

Nope...I've seen things that big...up around the Muskoka region...Massassauga Rattlers still exist....I went to reach for a stick of firewood one time while camping near Algonquin Park...one slithered away from the stick of wood I picked up...

    :-)

When I said true size I was just referring to actual pixels as opposed to squashed within the forum layout... but ironically the results are fairly similar to real life size.

I'm glad to read that you saw the snake before you picked it up.

I like snakes... even rattlers, but we have a new dog that chases anything that moves so this snake had to go some place else.

I was glad to get a few photos for my local nature collection first.

    best regards,
    mike

Craig ... I don't think Rattlesnake falls under the vegetable category. :)

@Mike, that's a great picture. I have some pretty amazing pure luck shots I've taken while in the Rockies. Should start a thread about nature pics. Call it 'In Tune With Nature' so we stay within the 'misc music related' discussion parameters. :)

I have one of a chipmunk that doesn't even look real and an elk scratching with his tongue hanging out. Heh.

I've heard that if you put the rattles inside of an acoustic
    guitar it will sound better....
I'm sure the saying meant without the rest of the snake.

All my fiddle-playing ancestors had rattles in their fiddles.

Here's something funny. Our new dog Go-Go was renamed by us when we brought him home from the dog pound. His pound name was "badger".

Maybe that's why I worry he'd tangle with that snake.

    best regards,

Good thing it didn't nail you in the ankle. They're pretty sleepy right now just coming out of hibernation probably. I once walked up on a baby sidewinder that was headed straight in the front door of a little bar in Tecopa. There was band playing, the bar was packed and the door was open. There would have been some real dancing if it had gotten in the bar.
