Proteus VX problem
I've looked thru all of the threads and haven't run across a solution for this. Sonar x1b essential on a sys 7, 64 bit laptop. Proteus VX one of the soft synths with many, many sound packages bought from digital sound factory...and they all are loaded and work just fine. Here's the problem: put VX into a project. Save the project and, as alleged in the manual, all of the settings on VX will be saved and I open the project again and everything will play just fine. Not true. First of all, when selecting a sound (merge is the term VX uses), the sound will play back just fine, but the bank is always 000:000 and the sound doesn't correspond to the patch number. Again, assign it to a channel and it plays fine. upon closing the project, the window comes up saying, "The contents of the sampler has changed. Do you want to save it now?" Sure, why not. The only choice for saving is Emulator something Bank...and then when you try to open it, a window says this is not a proper file. I've read the manual until I'm blue in the face. Any thoughts?

As mentioned in your other thread, I believe Proteus VX is not compatible with x64 operating systems. But you might try running it with Jbridge (Google it), rather than SONAR's built-in Bitbridge, and see if there is any improvement. Knowing there are problems with it, I never re-installed it after rebuilding my DAW with Win7 x64, so I haven't tried it myself.

Can win7 be set to 32 bit? if so, how? that may solve the problem. I'm pretty sure I selected the option to run sonar as XP.

Can win7 be set to 32 bit? No. The 32-bit and 64-bit versions are completely different. If you need a 32-bit environment fo rProteus VX, you;d have to set up dual boot partitions on you PC.

Hardly anyone posts their systems specs anymore when seeking help here. That makes it harder for us to help you. We have to put forth a greater effort to help you. I wish users would start making it easier for us to help them by posting system specs. :) If you've tried Proteus VX running SONAR X1 32Bit or tried using jBridge without success, there may be another alternative to dual booting with a 32bit OS installed on one of the partitions. If you have Windows 7 Professional or higher, you can try installing Windows XP mode. Check here for a description: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/windows-xp-mode Most likely Windows XP mode will be the solution for you, if your system meets the requirements. This new feature (Windows XP Mode) is dynamite for older program compatibility in Windows 7: Here's a link for info and download concerning Windows XP Mode: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx If you meet the requirements for installing Windows XP Mode, you will have to install SONAR X1 and Proteus VX and any other programs/apps you want to use in the Virtual PC environment ( Windows XP Mode.)

If I was wrong, it was in saying earlier that Proteus VX has a problem with x64 operating systems. If it runs okay on SONAR x86 in an x64 environment, that would be a good solution.

http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=1868754 The solution is old and for 8.5. It could be that it works normally with the latest JBridge updates. I ditched the program some time ago. But VX and 64 bit host is an issue. It worked fine in Sonar 8.3 32 bit on Windows Vista 64.

I noticed that the OP didn't say he didn't try using Proteus VX with SONAR X1 32bit, so the first thing I said to him is: "If you've tried Proteus VX running SONAR X1 32Bit or tried using jBridge without success, there may be another alternative...." Surely, using SONAR 32bit would be the most convenient solution if that works, and that's what I personally would've tried, even before posting here about a problem with VX running, but if X1 32bit is not the solution, I let him know that Windows XP Mode would most likely solve his issue, if his system meets the requirements to run Windows XP Mode. :)

I know from experience that Proteus VX does work with jBridge on Win 7 x64, but not BitBridge. I wish they'd update VX to overcome this!

brundlefly That's good to know. Thanks for confirming that. Maybe I'll reinstall it. No problem Brundlefly. My Proteus VX is build 2.0.1.0112, and I'm running the demo version of jBridge 1.19, which only allows 20-minute sessions. Will be buying the full version soon methinks. I've tried it with all versions of X1 up to and including X1b build 244.

Will be buying the full version soon methinks. jBridge is worth every penney, man. And if by chance you have some problem with some plug in, the author of jBridge responds fast and is very good at what he does, and your problem most like will be resolved. Because of the lack of response with aurthors of 3rd party plug ins to make them compatible with x64 native apps, and because of the stop in development for older 32bit plug ins that a user may find still useful, I assert, you will do very well with getting jBridge. Another thing to note is that when using BitBridge for plug ins, there is the issue where useful icons that access useful functions are not present. You know, the icons in the upper right corner that are supposed to be present on every plug in GUI (the icons to access certain functions that enhance a plug in's features, such as control surface learn function, the step sequencer, and the "give all keystrokes to plug in" option, etc..) However, when a user selects jBridge to load a particular 32bit plug in, those icons are available on the plug in GUI, just as if you were running 32bit plug ins in SONAR 32bit version! That's a good thing. So, again, I think getting jBridge is a wise decision and worth every penny of it's cost,

I think you've raised some important points here Thomas. I've always thought it odd that BitBridge does not provide the buttons you refer to. I get annoyed by this when using BFD2 and needing the step sequencer! The good level of support and its low price all offer so many things in its favour. Right... Where's my debit card?

jBridge is working great! For those wishing to use it with ProteusVX, I'd like to point out I've needed to enable the following five options: (edit: 6 options, not 5. It's been a long day!) audioMasterGetTIme Hack Dirty Close Prevent main host control when the GUI window is closed Sluggish GUI hack I am getting a dispatcher opcode 19 error message Use legacy integrated mode (v1.2) The only other thing of note is that if you delete PVX from a project, Sonar may appear to stop responding. This is because the synth displays an alert box on closing asking if you want to save the sampler's memory. You may need to minimize Sonar to find it! Responding to the alert box puts things right again.
