Sonar X1 Asio Sample Rate

The only time Sonar will play back audio upon starting with the asio driveris is at 44.1khz. 48 or 96 will not play back upon startup. If I go into preferences and change it to 48 or 96 it will play then, but when I close and reopen sonar I lose audio again. Is anyone else having this issue? Sonar is the only DAW that seems to have a problem with asio drivers on my computer...

CPU: Intel Core i5 750

    Welcome to the forum:

there is no ASIO driver included with onboard sound chips like Realtek.
Most Realtek chips can only play back at 44.1khz and 48 khz because that's the CD & DVD audio standard.

They don't necessarily allow for recording of anything other than 44.1 K.

If you are using the 3rd party ASIO4ALL that is in fact not an ASIO driver. It is a wrapper for WDM drivers which makes then appear to the system as if you have ASIO drivers installed. Whether they work or not is a crap shoot at best.

You are better off using MME drivers if you must use your onboard audio. Onboard sound chips are designed for audio playback and basic recording in conjunction with Media Player, CD's DVD and games etc. When it comes to using a high tech piece of software like SONAR you would do yourself a big favor and buy a proper sound card. One that has real drivers written for it in both WDM or ASIO.

There's lots of good budget level cards around. more than I could list. Have a look around and see what's available.
    Some things to think about.

How many simultaneous inputs will you need?
Is a guitar one of those inputs? will need HiZ input for direct guitar or a seperate DI box or output froma guitar amp.
Will you be using a microphone?
If you use a condensor Microphone you'll need Phantom power.
there are all sorts of connection standards. Firewire, USB, Internal card for a desktop PC PCI/e/x
Will you only ever play back in stereo or will you need surround sound?
What ar you going to listen on? eg Amplifier and speakers or powered speakers, Hi Fi or other audio system.
What can you afford? There's a sound/audio device for any price point from a $100 to $1000s.

Come back and ask whenever you need.
