HELLO PAY PAL USERS a burning Question?
So I had been using pay smell for purchases UNTIL one day it informs me I have reached my limit and would I kindly submit my banking account information and they would be happy to carry on. I did have a verified address on file. I have had a credit card on file with them for quite a while and had no payment issues with them. I am leery of submitting my checking account info with them, I seem to have read on some forums users having concerns . SO whose done the full disclosure with PP and hows it working out for you ?

If you have NOT already done so, I'd definately attempt to vallidate if the inquiry is legit first. Then, if you're satisfied I would reconsider submitting the requested info. Personally, I'd be very hesitant to submit any personal financial info. What was the nature/reason for the request for disclosure? Rich

I had to make the same transition. They have the banking info but I always decline to let them make a with drawl and choose the option to use the credit card. They just want to avoid the credit card fees. Which... is why they'd love to set you up with the PayPal credit card. I don't need a PayPal credit card and don't want one so I just finally signed up. There is a irony that after so much good painless business that they want you to re-qualify. Good Luck, best regards, mike

UNTIL one day it informs me I have reached my limit and would I kindly submit my banking account information Did this request come via your email? To confirm, login to your PayPal account and see if there are any messages. Very good chance their isn't anything being requested. I get spam mail a lot indicating such-and-such is needed all the time. Its all scammers. There should be little reason for PayPal to need this critical update information as long as you have been a good customer in the past.

You can verify this very simply. You get an email from Paypal and they tell you to login and do everything else within the Paypal. The Paypal site itself will include confirmation that you have to make the transition when you hit their threshold. I have been a member for 10+ years and slowly hit the limit by getting a nice guitar on ebay now and then. It's pretty simple. I didn't want to do it but I finally did it after I bought one too many guitar. best regards, mike

NO email , it actually occurred when I attempted to make a pay-pal transaction on their site, just as Mikes situation . I was able to use the pay pal site once as a guest and use my CC, but they pick up the fact I am a registered user and nag me to use my registered account. @Mike, I am assuming you have the choice EVERY transaction to continue to use your CC info on file and NOT the banking account withdrawal? THanks in advance.

Like Mike, I have had a account with them for 10+ years. I've always had the verified bank transfer option in effect (not the credit card). I am careful with phishing emails - they do crop up occasionally. I do not respond to any emails from them - I don't care how genuine they appear to be. Instead, I go directly to my account (login) and mange it from there. If there is something that genuinely needs attention, my account has the real information. I find paypal very convenient for me. I send funds to family, ebay and other vendors and I accept ebay payments as well. So far (knock on a telecaster) I've had no issues...but I am careful.

Yes, every time you make a purchase you have to recognize that PayPal is about to make a withdrawl and you can "change" the method of payment. It is a nuisance and it's obvious they want to not use the credit card... but I prefer the extra layer of protection that my bank offers on top of the paypal protection. I was very reluctant to do it. It's a choice you have to make for yourself. best regards, mike

I have been using that PP feature for quite some time. It actually makes more sense to me because when ordering from a vendor that offers PP in addition to CC I usually choose PP. That way they never access your private CC info.A vendor onl;y sees that they were paid via PP and where to send those expensive guitars ;)

I just grit my teeth and put up with having to select CC every time - just a "price" of doing business... I've had an account for a long time, probably 10 years, linked with the bank and all that. But, haven't done much bank-transferring.

This is always scary to those that havent done it yet do to the CROOKS of the world. Call PAYPALS Customer Service Direct and have them walk ya thru it by your current account. That way you eliminate ALOT of those types of concerns and whether it is actually their site or initial email you received. I have done this with a few accounts of my own and am not concerned at all, When I close one out over the phone, it immediately closes when Im online so I know its working.

I've had a PayPal account for about 8 years. From the beginning I've had my bank account set up and used direct transfers. Never had a problem. PayPal is (or was, I haven't used them in quite some time) great when dealing with disputes. Basically if you have a dispute over something you paid for, you are assumed correct until the other party challenges PayPals decision. If no challenge, after 30 days, the money goes back in to your account. At least that's how it used to work, again, I haven't had to do that in many years.

As mentioned above, I completely ignore all Pay Pal emails and go directly to the Pay Pal site. I've had a verified account connected to a checking account and a debit card for many years now without any issues (other than the fees they take and holding my money sometimes when using fleaBay). Since I've stopped using eBay, Pay Pal has become far more useful to me.

Yes, I just recently had to get netverified with them as well, I was very suspicious and put it off for a few weeks but did it a few weeks ago and all is well so far.

I've used paypal for donkeys years and have also had my account hacked. A payment went out to somewhere in China, not for a lot, only about $250. My default payment method is my bank account but the method had been changed to one of my credit cards for this payment, presumably thinking I wouldn't notice as quickly. Within 15 minutes of the payment paypal had emailed me to complete a security check and change my password ao they must watch for certain types of transaction. I disputed the payment and had a full refund within 4 hours so I have as much faith in their system as I do any other non-cash system. I seem to recall banks claiming that chip & PIN was going to stop credit card fraud. Based on the number of people I know that have had fraudulent transactions on cards it's increased. Sign of the times I fear.

Pay Pal says plainly in their info that they NEVER send emails asking for personal info, card numbers, passwords, etc..... You can always log in to pay pal directly to verify and confirm any request for info from them. Never "log in" from an emailed link. Since you said you were on line, in the process of a transaction, it is probably safe to assume you were definitely on the REAL Pay Pal site. In that case, it's up to you. If they are forcing you to use a different payment/verification, then I guess you might have no choice if you wish to continue to use their services. I always decline the direct withdrawal from my bank account and use the credit card. I believe I set up the bank acct info early on with them since when I sell on Ebay, and the buyer uses Pay Pal...which I require, the money is directly deposited to my account. It's safe to allow them the bank acct info. If you are a bit freaked about giving your bank account number.... simply go to the bank and open a new account with the minimum required to open the account. Then, you can give that account number to Pay Pal and rest assured that they can't play funny with your funds above a certain amount.
