Track View navigation

How do people navigate around a project in the Track View? I find myself using zoom functions most of the time, but they seem to be a bit flaky and/or buggy.

The zoom tool doesn't seem to show an outline like it used to in 8.5.3. Anyone else experiencing this? (CWBRN-3918, acknowledged as a bug but doesn't seem to be fixed yet).

The undo zoom (alt-Z) doesn't always restore to the previous view. For example, fit a project using shift-F, use the zoom tool (hold Z down and drag an invisible rectangle), then undo this. It isn't the view I started with.

Use the new zoom in time ruler and zoom right in, then out again. It's almost impossible to return to the original view. And this doesn't scroll as advertised (page 83 of the manual).

alt-wheel actually works pretty well, as does ctrl-left/right arrow.

What's your favorite Track View navigation?

Cheers, Peter.

I love me WizMouse - Wherever the cursor is, without clicking, that's the area that will scroll.  So in Track View, just my mouse wheels gets me up and down quickly and smoothly.  For expanding and contracting all tracks, I always use the control in the lower right hand corner of the TV - still the fastest way for me to do that, since several Sonars back.

What do you mean about zoom not showing an outline--?  I don't get what you're referring to.

    Hey Randy

If you hold the Z key down (just like using shift or control) and drag a rectangle in the track view, once you release the mouse the area inside the rectangle fills the track view. It's a great way to zoom in. Alt-Z undoes the zoom. Only problem is that in X1 the rectangle can't be seen while dragging. Try it in 8.5.3 to see it in action.

    Cheers, Peter.

p.s. For a moment I thought WizMouse was the name of your avatar :) I'll check it out.

The UI isn't working correctly for me.  If I click on the scroll bars, like the song position pointer, it doesn't work.

If I click on the volume faders, it's all or nothing.   I can't set them part way.

    Did you find a workaround?

Maybe I should start a new thread.
