Fuzz when recording

I am using a Zoom R16 as an interface.  Down loaded drivers, etc.

Today, when I try to record something--just second try at it--even with levels showing as normal, I am getting fuzz, distoration and then a second or two of clean alternating.

When I use the Zoom to record stand alone, no fuzz, just clean; so it isn't the mic or pre amp.

What might be causing this?

I have the Zoom selected as the input.

So far, the entire experience has been extremely frustrating.  Just switched from VS 1880 which was easy to figure out and dependable to use.

I did buy the Groove 3 video and made sure I watched it all the way up to basic recording before trying to do anything.  But, there is also some problem.  In the video, they show, when you pull down/expand the track, that there will be input and output drop downs to use in each track.  When I open a project using the "normal" template,  no such drop downs exist.  Only the  "M"  "S"  "R" buttons, etc.  So, the video isn't always helpful.

When I started using my current computer I got a lot of distortion when I would try to record.  My interface is an M-Audio 2496 card with updated driver.  What solved it for me was to disable the network adapters in the Device Manager.

This may not be relevant since your interface is different, but it might be worth a try.
