How to delete automation that was written with an effect that you have now deleted?

I write an automation on a track that has an effect such as a filter.  I decide I do not want the effect any longer and delete it. The automation is still visible and gets in the way. How do I delete this automation if I cannot select it?

Once selected it can be deleted. Use the Edit Filter to help in selecting it.

In track view highlight the track, select edit/ cut & check track automation only.
    or
If you have more than one in the track you can also in track view/ right click on the node, then select ' delete envelope'.
