new to the forum, not to cakewalk. question.

has the discourse always gotten so of colour and out of hand?
cakewal doesnt censor when people vent and describe their problems and frustrations.

imho, they let far too much "irrelevant" material stay posted.  censorship does have a place here.

some posts are mildly off colour but also funny- i have gotten some great laughs these past few months.
my question is:

has the forum always been the way I've experienced it since joining in January '11?

    Hi James
Do not take the guy who calls himself Belg as the normal forum user - he is deranged and I am sure that Cakewalk will find a way of blocking him completely.
My experience of the forum is that people are extremely helpful and there is plenty of harmless fun.

I can only echo what Daryl has said - this is most certainly not the norm - there are many helpful and friendly people on this forum - it really is an invaluable aid  - personally I cannot rememebr the last time I had to contact Cakewalk customer support for instance - if I get a problem I have always been able to get it sorted with the help of some of the knowledgeable people who are always willing to help.
This "thing" Belg, really is an exception and it is obvious he / it / she  needs serious medical help.
The sooner Cakewalk can obliterate him and his highly offensive posts, the better in my book.

I get the feeling BlixYZ is not just talking about Belg, though that's the most extreme example we've had certainly in my time here. But more generally, it's true that X1 seems to have polarized the user base like nothing before it, probably because it's such a radical reworking of the interface. This has brought some tensions to the surface which might normally bubble under it. By and large I think most people here are still reasonable and friendly and helpful, but when some people are happy and some aren't it can get a bit uncomfortable, and so it has.

No, but then no previous version of SONAR has had such a difficult birth.

There was, however, a time when things got out of hand in the Coffee House, leading to that forum being completely deleted. Ironically, the CH is now considered by many to be the most civil forum. Of course, it's also the forum in which one poster contributes 50% of all posts, so as long as he minds his manners its civil tone will likely persist.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I think over all we have seen this before. It is not all that new. With each new version there are those that are not happy. It dies down after awhile.

We have even seen old forum members forsake Sonar for something else they because did not like the new version.

What is some what different is how persistent some have been in their unhappiness with X1. Some of this was due to CW not releasing a manual with the release of X1. Those that got it early had no documentation to look at which caused a lot of chagrin on their ability to understand it.
CW chose to change basic things within X1 that old users had learned a long time ago use.

Those that had the advantage of down loading the manual and studying it had a far better time in transitioning over to the new way of doing things.

However not all the changes were greeted with acceptance even though some had gotten the new way and understood. They just didn't like it.

Of course the bugs didn't help either. Many of us didn't have show stopping problems with X1 and some did.

I don't know what my view would have been if X1 hadn't worked on my system from the start.

As far as the forum is concerned it is a very dynamic place with ups and downs. As we move forward we are bound to have posters post good things here and very bad things here.  That is the nature of an internet forum.

For the most part most people are getting on with their lives and doing quite well with X1.

I've  never posted much in these forums but I have always lurked. I don't remember a time when the forums were like they are now. I do feel a lot of the dust has settled but some still lingers.
One difference I noticed after the release of X1 was how everybody put themselves into camps: the Consummate Complainers and the Fanboys. Because of these two conflicting camps a lot of friction has been created on the forums and still exists to this day.
But hey, it's the internet...everybody has an opinion. What did Alanis Morrisette (sp?) say? "They'll throw opinions like rocks in riots..."
