I do not run any AV on my DAW. If you feel you must run AV try disabling Norton and then running the update. Then enable Norton again.

I would not recommend  running AV on your DAW but I understand that not everyone can afford to dedicate a computer to the music creation process.

The alternative is to have two profiles one with AV turned on for using the the WWW and one with AV disabled for your music creation.  JAS.

yes..norton blew it up on me as well..its a reputation scan by norton..meaning not many people have downloaded it so it thinks its harmful..just go to quarentine and click on options...then click on restore.then in the quickfix file click trust now..youll be good.

Throw out Norton. It's a resource hog and I personally can't stand it trying to be smarter than me!

I highly recommend the Microsoft anti virus; Security Essentials.

With the Windows firewall I've never had any problems with virus and other threats (more often with Norton actually). All of my machines has it now and same goes for the machines at the post and dubbing facility I work for. You never notice it's there... at all... ever!

But this is just my two pennies of course

Dual boot is even better. One OS for internet, one OS with NIC or WiFi- card disabled.
Network drivers like ndis.sys claim a lot of processor time (spikes as measured by the de DPC latency checker), causing dropouts at low latency.

I totally agree 100%. It stays out of the way and is free. Plus it really does work.

Or either use Avast free or AVG Free. But, I would get rid of Norton, as others has suggested. It used to be esteemed as a resource hog, but whether that's true, now-a-days, or not, it's not proven to be compatible and as trouble free on a DAW machine, as the other anti-virus programs mentioned, here.
