Old Versions deletion

Is it absolutely necessary to delete old versions when installing a newer version? If so, what are the pitfalls if not deleted?

no, it's not necessary and actually, it's not recommended, at least it used to be not recommended by cakewalk, and I still don't recommend it.  if you need the hard drive space then you need a new hard drive.  leaving the old versions on the drive allows you to go back to previous versions if you run into problems because they can coexist quite peacefully.  also, if there are any plugins or FX which were not included in newer versions, then you still have access to them if you don't uninistall the old versions.

But, install the new versions into their folders.
