New monitors

Hey all,
I just picked up a pair of M-audio Studiophile BX5a deluxe, and not really liking what I am hearing out of them.  For a pre-amp, I am using an M-audio fast track pro USB. I was told to pick up a pair of studio monitors so I can mix with the "true sound", but I am getting anything but a good sound. Listening through the monitors, there is no low end at all, and when I crank up the low end to where it sounds good on the monitors, it sounds like bass flooded crap in a home stereo, and I have tried 3 different ones. I know this isn't exactly best practice, but when I was mixing on my sound blaster x-FI and Logitech speakers, it sounded WAAAY better. I was looking around and saw that there is a sub woofer that is available called a BX10, which will work well with my monitors, and I am unsure if I need to buy them or not. I am almost debating weather or not I should just hook back up the logitec speakers and mix with that since I am having much better results.  My room is sound treated the best it can be..but the low end from these monitors is a serious problem.

Any ideas?  I hate to mix, then play on a stereo and then go back and keep mixing till it sounds the way it should.

Bear in mind that most domestic systems have some variation of a 'smile' curve going on, with the highs and lows being hyped. Studio monitors tend to be a lot flatter across the frequency range so it might take a bit of adapting to get used to.

There's a couple of things it may be. You've mentioned your room is treated already, is there really no further scope for improvement?

How do you have the monitors mounted / positioned? How close are they to the side / back walls? You can get more bass out of them by moving them back towards the wall (but mind that you don't get so close that you can hear the port 'chuffing')

If everything is setup in such a way that we can discount a setup anomaly then it maybe that you just need to spend a bit of time learning your new speakers so that you can get your mixes to translate, it could be that you add a sub or it could be that you decide you've bought the wrong speakers, take 'em back and get something with more low end (bear in mind that bigger drivers and more low end are going to show up any weaknesses in your room in pretty short order (and upset the neighbours!).
