midi quirk

Here's a midi quirk;

if I make a midi track using whatever soft synth (doesnt matter which one), apply midi effects as channel inserts ie quantize, then bounce the soft synth output to an audio track, the effects aren't applied. If I drag the effects into the actual midi clip, they are applied on bounce but then I find I have the odd missing note!!

I have found the only reliable way to render to an audio track is to have effects as channel inserts, then freeze the synth, THEN bounce the FROZEN track to a new audio track. Bit of a pain but theat seems to work.

Anybody else experienced this?

    Are you using separate MIDI and audio tracks and inserting the MIDI FX on the MIDI track? And when you say "channel insert" you just mean you're inserting it in the FX bin of the MIDI track, correct?

    Freeze and bounce should be using the same code, so I'm not sure why freezing would work, and bouncing would not.

    I'll have to check.

    Hiya,

    Yes, effects bin of the midi track, not the soft synth track.

    I can't replicate the problem.

    I set up MIDI and audio tracks for the Studio Instruments E.P, recorded a deliberately sloppy MIDI track, inserted the Quantize FX in the bin, set it to 1/8ths, bounced the MIDI and Audio to another track, and the transients on that track are all right on the money.

    Build 244 Quick Fix is installed. Not sure it matters, but what are you waiting on?

    I just tried this using Quantize inserted on the midi track. If I bounce with Fast Bounce checked it works just fine, however, there will potentially be missing notes in some of my softsynths. If I bounce and uncheck Fast Bounce (a real time bounce) it does not include the effect.

    I have the Quickfix installed.

    There is a long-standing bug that MIDI automation envelopes are not processed on real-time bounce. It may apply to MIDI FX as well. I don't have any synths that don't work well with fast bounce, so I never use real-time bounce. That could be it, but since the OP said freezing was working, I assumed he was fast-bouncing as well.

    Dropped notes on Fast Bounce are usually only a problem with disk-streaming synths, but MIDI Prepare Using Buffer being too low might also cause this.
