How much is the name worth?
I've been really close to order the Vstudio-100, but then I saw this new Focusrite interface for almost half the price ( http://www.focusrite.com/...scarlett/scarlett_8i6/ ). So now I wonder if focusritepreamps is more important than the DAW controll Vstudio will give me? I like the motorised fader, but I'm not sure if I need the transport controls. I'm so used to use the keys (spacebar, R, W,L..) So for you guys who owns a vstudio: How much will Vstudio improve my workflow? And how do you think the Roland pre's compare to the focusrite? Another thing with the scarlet is the bundeled pluggins......seems nice

Great question RogerH! I don't have any Focusrite pre's so I am not going to try and compare them to the VS-100 pre's. I do know that the VS-100 pre's are very crisp and clean, and I like them a lot. For what that is worth - LOL! I have read on other forums that the VS-100 pre's are NOT the same as the ones in the VS-700, but they are very close. Maybe you could find a comparison between the VS-700 pre's and the focusrite on the web somewhere? As for workflow, the VS-100 has made my life a lot easier. 1: I really enjoy the transport, and could not imagine being with it. 2: I'm old school, and the VS-100 has a spot for a double footswitch which can be programmed. I built myself a custom footswitch with a "play on/off" and a "record on/off" button. Now I can punch in/out while playing my guitar parts which I find a lot faster than setting up auto punch points. 3: The pre-amp is good enough that I have done away with any other mixer in my project studio. Surprisingly, what I don't use much is the fader, or ACT. That's just a summary of my own usage of the VS-100. I really like it, but likely not for the same reasons you would. Good luck in you decision!

i have the focusrite saffire 6 usb.and i also have the vstudio 20..your right about the pres in the focusrite..but not by much.or not a huge difference..i can only notice it on vocals..or maybe acoustic guitar..the vstudio 20 is a powerfull little horse.and i did buy it for the transport controls and the fader movements..you can even select/deselect rec.tracks alot of cool little functions.the 100 has even more.

Charlie: You bring up an interesting question. I wonder if the Pre's on the VS-20 are the same as the VS-100? As I mention earlier, I have read that the 100 is suppose to be marginally different from the 700. Where does the 20 fit in this puzzle? I only bring that up, as you are doing a comparison with the focusrite? If the 20 uses the same pre's as the 100 it will make your comparison even more credible (not saying it isn't credible already - just wondering?). I hope that comes across properly, and makes sense? LOL!

Thanks for the replies guys. Codamedia: The footswitch option is something I didn't know about. One extra point to the Vstudio. Chuckebaby: I've have to ask the same question as Codamedia, about pre's in the VS-100 and VS-20. Are they the same? And how about the faders on the VS20, are they motorised?

The footswitch option is something I didn't know about. One extra point to the Vstudio. Actually, two extra points since it can run two footswitches - not just one Seriously, I love having the footswitch capabilities. As great as auto-punch is, nothing beats a footswitch to punch in/out when you are a guitar player. With the UNDO features of a DAW, you don't even have to worry if you mess up the punch.
