MIDI controller troubles

Hey guys,
I am new to Sonar (and digital recording) and having trouble getting my MIDI Controller to work. I am using an EMU Xboard 25 in Sonar home studio seven, only it is not working. It has worked a couple of times, but not consistent. In the Midi devices menu, it is listed as an input, and I do not have it checked as a midi output (microsoft GS wavetable synth is). The controller lights up when I start sonar, but the MIDI input/ output activity seems to not be doing anything. Any trouble shooting tips? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks

usb devices will sometimes have problems if windows "loses" them - that could be from poorly written drivers or power saving feature in windows for USB ports or it could be because of the port you have it plugged into.

do you have it plugged into a front port of the computer?  try the back.  or if you have it plugged into a USB hub, don't plug it directly into a back port.

also, verify that your power saving veatures in windows is not shutting down the USB ports to save power.  I forgot what that is called - but it depends on which version of windows you're using.
