X1 Producer and Focusrite Saffire 6 USB

I'm currently using the V20 Studio with Guitar Tracks 4.  I like the unit a lot, but I'm thinking about upgrading to X1 Producer.  I have some questions and hope some foks here can answer them.

  • Does the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB work well with X1 as the hardware interface?
  • Most of my songs have acoustic guitar.  I use two condensor mics in X-Y pattern typically.  If I run the two mics into input 1 and 2 of the Focusrite, can I have a dedicated track in X1 for each of them?  This isn't possible with the V20.  With the V20, I have to have separate mic preamps that I run into the Line In inputs.  I can only record to one track at a time, so I end up with both mics in one track.  I can't mix the two inputs independently.
  • Is the Producer version overkill?  I usually end up with 15 - 24 tracks, including drums, bass, electric and acoustic guitars and vocals.  I have some future plans that will need 30+ tracks.  I'd like to have a DAW that is also capable of mastering.
  • Are the effects decent (compressor, reverb, etc.)?  Previously, I had a ProTools system with UAD hardware/plugins.  Are the X1 on a par with UAD?
Thanks for any advice!

okay i have both the focusrite saffire 6 usb and the v-studio 20..i use the focusrite as my soundcard be cause of the preamps are nice and strong sounding on vocals and acoustic guitar.i use the vs 20 as a controler just to have transport controls and faders to minipulate my project quickly.
rodger i would like to help you but there are so many questions up there i dont know where to start..
the focisrite works great w/x1..but the thing is..what are you running for an operating system(you didnt give any specs for your computer or what your running for an os.
#2 yes you can assign each channel to each track.you can also do this on the vs20 but not in guitar tracks.in x1 it is easy..but its also a big jump up from guitar tracks which i consider a toy compared to x1 producer.
#3 x1 is over kill its got so many features its redicules..but if you want the mastering tools youll want producer..thats why its called.."producer"
its got very decent 64bit capibilitys..but then again i dont know if your running 64 bit or not.
#4the efeects that come with producer are great i think.some many argue.but those are the ones using 700 plug ins.its got a long list of great plug ins.
i find the vs20 and the focusrite to be similar in sound..omly diff is focusrite has a better vocal pres sound to it..but not by much.im recording right now and im actually using the vs20 as my soundcard becuse im trying to get a better feel for it because my guitarist wants a interface and im selling him the saffire.not cause i dont like it..because he needs one and i dont see much differ between them both..anymore q.'s let me know..welcome to the forum and hangout a while..youll learn a lot in here.

I have that interface. Works pretty good, no problems so far.  And yes you can use two mic's.  Just choose which input on each track. One left and one right and your good to go.

Hey Chucke!  Alls good. I'm glad to hear your problem was solved.  Things get pretty frustrating when they don't work.

Thanks Chuckebaby and Barczar... appreciate the responses.

You've answered my main questions about simultaneous multiple track recording and effects plugins.

With the V20, I'm using a Dell Studio 1735 laptop, Dual Core CPU 2Ghz, 3GB of RAM running Windows Vista, 320GB hard drive.  Seems to run fine so far.  If I go with X1 and the Focusrite, I'll probably get a new tower PC and use it exclusively for recording.  The current laptop gets used for a lot more than just recording.

    Thanks again!

you may just need a new tower because if you read the x1 system reqirments im not sure your dual core 2ghz is going to work my friend..thats why i say always add your system specs in your signiture.
go to cakes web site and look at x1 system requirments..i have an intel i3 2.40 and 2.40ghz is the minuim i believe.

Thanks chuckebaby... the PC I'm looking at is a Dell Inspiron with the following:

    • i3-550 64 bit
    • 3.2 Ghz
    • 750 Gb Hard Drive
    • Windows 7 Home Premium
I think this is a decent system to run X1, but want to make sure.

    Thanks!

A dual core 2gHz works just fine, IF the pc is used only for music, and does not have lots of other processes running on it.
I have one, with a  Saffire 6, and I can do anything in X1.

Sonar X2 Producer. Focusrite Saffire 6, Fender Strat, black PC for recording and mixing. That is all.

your really not going to tell me you run 30+ tracks plus effects and mastering effect on a dual core are you?
because thats what it says in his first post.and im stating the facts..those are sonars system requirments..now im glad for you but id hate to give misleadin information to someone whos going to spend hundreds of dollars on a computer.
and by anything do you mean run 50-60 tracks loaded to the gill with vst's and dxi's and session drummer and demention pro and rapture and zt3a all in the same project?..that kind of anything?
