Metronome: Why doesn't level show in it's console channel?
I just realized that when I'm using the metrononme during playback, I see a metronome channel in the console, output is master, but the level doesn't react to it. I only see the metronome's level in the Master channel. I know I just said the metronome's output is to Master but why wouldn't I see the level react on the metrononme channel as well? Is this a bug? Thanks. Dave

If the metronome is routed directly to the Master bus, there's no reason it would be going through the Metronome bus, that's just a bus that happens to be named Metronome. Open the Preferences dialog (hit 'P') and go to the Metronome page and see where it's routed. I know it seems like it should be routed to the Metronome bus by default but I'm not sure that's true, and/or it might have gotten rewired somehow. I think in previous builds it was buggy and sometimes re-routed itself or turned itself on/off, but that was supposedly fixed in X1b which it looks like you have.

you could have also by accident hit "hide track..in the c.v. there are a few drop down list to the top right ..cycle throught them and look for.show all busses.its considered a buss

Yes, isn't that odd about the Metronome bus that isn't actually doing anything? It comes up as part of the default project templates, but deleting it doesn't effect the Metronome. Re-name it and use it for something else - Why it's in there at all is a mystery to me. Randy B.

Probably only as a (bad) example of a bus ... rename it as Bowser says ...

Metronome output routing is per-project/template. If the metronome is not routed to the metronome bus, the template from which the project was started must have lost that routing, and the template needs to be re-saved with the routing restored. As mentioned, there was a bug in earlier releases that the metronome output would be re-routed spntaneously after changing and saving preferences unrelated to metronome settings, but in my case it always re-routed direct to Main Outs, bypassing even the Master bus.

On the contrary, I route the metronome through there and save the default template that way so it's always like that. I want the metronome to have its own bus. Why? So I can connect a MIDI button to the mute button and then happily turn the metronome on and off on the fly, as opposed to having to stop the transport to do so. Doesn't anyone remember Mike McCue's 25-page metronome thread of a couple of months ago? Sheesh, how quickly we forget...

subtlearts On the contrary, I route the metronome through there and save the default template that way so it's always like that... Hi, Subtlearts - Thanks for the reply, but why "on the contrary"--contrary to what? I was saying how I don't understand why the default template, before the user has made any changes, has a Metronome bus in the mixer, but the Metronome isn't hooked up to it. I've kept the Met directly feeding to my interface because it's my preference. My need for the Met to be on or off is always decided when I'm at a pause, so for the way I work, I don't need the admittedly nifty thing of turning it off and on during playback. Mike's Metronome thread? I never saw it. Randy B.

Well, I've learned something yet again from you guys. I went into Preferences and looked to see where the Metronome's output was assigned to ... well, it was routed to the Metronome bus. But had never worked until I reselected it and pressed "Apply". It's now showing up in the Metronome bus correctly and, yes, you can switch it on and off without having to stop the transport etc. Thanks subtlearts (and probably Mike McCue - although I didn't read that long thread).

Here's the thread (all 21 fiery pages of it): http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2176360 Sorry Randy, I didn't mean any offense. I too find it strange that the metronome isn't routed by default to the metronome bus, which raises the rather obvious question of why it's there - but I personally find it quite useful. If you don't need it, then by all means delete it in your default templates (I'm sure you already have) - but I was raising the alternate (not to say contrary) viewpoint that it's actually quite useful, if this fits your workflow, to have it routed through there. Not really a big deal - well, unless you take that 21-page thread as evidence that for some people it very much is - but worth pointing out in case it helps someone who didn't know about it before - which in fact seems to have been the case...
