Question about recording levels

I'm recording vocals with a Sampson C01U Condenser USB Microphone.

I made a recording in which the decibels occasionally hit their max / 0 level.  I don't hear any gross distortion / artifacts when playing things back, though I can see the top of the wave form flat against the top of its display area periodically.

Can I correct this with a volume envelope or compression, or am I best off re-recording with the microphone set to a lower level (or while standing further away from the mic)?

Thanks for the help.

    Re-record.

Lower the level from your mic-pre.

Make sure you don't peak any higher than about -12db

Make sure you're recording at 24 bit!!!

Standing further away will result in a "far away" sound which won't help if you're looking for a warm, intimate vocal.

    Laney and Bristol_Jonesey -

    Thanks for the replies.
That's kind of what I figured, but I thought I'd double check before doing stuff again.

    Thanks.

    Yes, re-record.

...but if that was THE KILLER TAKE TO END ALL M@#HA - F#$(IN TIME, then keep it and learn how to work around it. #1 test is if you can't hear it and the song works, then stop caring about it and move on.
