Respect.

Hello,

We must always respect fellow musicians, whether their song sucks IYO or not. If you hate their style, hate with respect.

Thank you.

    I agree.
I also feel like adding that anyone who thinks he/she is some kind of a musician should be able to recognize the talent and/or good hard work behind a production even though the genre or contents isn't to ones liking ( rasism and all kind of extrimist bigotism can be openly despised IMO).

Well said Miggy - this world be a much better place if more youngsters (and older folk, who should know better) conducted themselves in the manner you do

Ever notice that right before somebody figuratively slaps you in the face online, they usually start by saying "with all due respect..."?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    It's just sad and frustrating.

I got into a dispute over FaceBook with a couple of peers who had no respect with the said matter. The hell, i don't like her music, but insulting isn't the same as criticizing anymore. Besides, it wasn't her fault the song was bad, she didn't write, compose, nor was responsible for the cheesy production techniques. I explained, and i was replied with a stupid answer that was something like "That was a long post, why didn't you just say that she sucks!", proving even more that my post wasn't understood AT ALL and the bashing-party was more dominant. So i kinda got ticked off, but i choked them in a non-offensive manner still. The second peer replied in an even more stupid way, so i just ended it with a moral resolution. I wanted to actually 'hurt' them for their immaturity, but i felt i was nearing a fist-fight threat knowing them, so nevermind.

They then turn to me like i'm defending an artist that i don't even listen to? I'm defending an artist from ignorance regardless how ****ty his music is.

What even ticked me even more was "If she covered a punk song, it would be better!". I really wanted to ask him "Do you even know what punk is? I'm sure the 'punk' you are listening to is fairly the same mainstream ****e as the one you are insulting."
I was about to enter that very sentence, but i kept my calm with my best effort.

    Fecking poseur.

Sometimes these people even listen to a type of music for vanity and belongingness with each other. It irritates me when they call themselves 'I am so <insert genre here>!' and claim to know how it is to be a <insert genre here> and only know and listen to the poster boys of the genre. They call themselves punks when they don't even know what real punk music.

I also hate purists who insult those that they don't fancy. They diss all the newcomers because they are new, they have better production quality, young, or mixed with different styles.

Elitism, racism, sexism, and more.. I'm fed up.

FFS, respect would make the world really a better place. Nothing is everyone's cup of tea, but respect.

    I want to cry now.
Just kidding, i'll shoot some bandits on Borderlands instead.

    Nicely put. Yes.
Also, to people who are not at home in the creative arts circles (be it music, painting...) is sometimes very hard to accept the way the fruits of ones creativity are judged.

When you're told that you have simply assembled a bookshelf in the wrong way or solved a mathematical problem wrongly, you can accept the critisism and understand the concrete evidence of your mistake.

But when you've poured your heartblood into a melody and lyrics and then someone says it leaves him totally cold or that it's pretentious, it can be hard to accept.

I've been in acting circles and such since I was nine, and I'm totally used to being criticised
and have my creations and ideas criticised. That's why I'm sometimes surprised how hard it is for some people to take negative feedback.

It's only the best of friends who can say " that doesn't work at all, dump it" instead of  "well...yeee...it's OK".

Haha....yes...I guess that phrase is supposed to mitigate any defensive posturing by the recipient prior to someone's *critique* hammer coming down.

Personally, I have not commented on any songs in some time for a few reasons....some mentioned above.
If one posts on the internet one must be prepared for any response.
I would not post anything adversarial or disrespectful but thick skin in protocol in the internet cesspool.

I used to participate more on the songs forum during the old Coffeehouse in the late 90's.
My last one,  I think, was a twisted6's jingle several months ago which I thought was well done.
