First Pro Tools Recording Session

Just completed a three hour session. Worked out well. Pro Tools 9, Mac Book Pro (I'm a PC guy), and a Fireface UFX Interface. No formal training on Pro Tools, very little time reading manuals. First impression... Had a bit of a time struggling to find familiar functions. Assigning IO Paths to Hardware Ports. Assigning tracks to Paths. Once I figured that out, things got a whole lot easier. Everything was straight forward, much like Sonar. One CPU Overload. No other problems. Pretty much what I would have expected from a Sonar session. Five songs, sounded great, burned it to CD and handed it to the customer (okay a very good friend). It's a religious thing. Kind of like, I have a Mackie Mixer, and a Behringer Mixer. They each have their advantages and disadvantages. Hard to say one's better than the other (the Mackie)... :-) Mikey

    Hey Norman,

I had a similar experience about a month ago. I bought a MacBook Pro, then decided to buy Logic Studio to go with it.

I learnt something very valuable from it. Unsurprisingly I sounded exactly the same recording myself on a Mac with Logic as I do with a PC and Sonar.

No doubt a lot of people will say look at all that extra expense etc blah blah blah. However I learnt that when recording audio, the DAW used has absolutely nothing to do with the music that we make.

I now feel that the inferior/superior complex of which DAW I'm using has been lifted and I can finally see it for what it is/ was.

    Regards

But then, there's still the inferior/superior complex of actually using a Daw as opposed to, er, um, TAPE and circuits.

With Daws, it's kind of like picking the best of the worst. Kind of like voting for a politician.

Same thing when i switched DAWs, the I/O kept me waiting the most.

    By the way,

Does Sonar X1 have a control room?
    I didn't recall i had one on my 7PE

    Control rooms are sweet!

Check out my band's song on YouTube!
