Kits for Session Drumer 3

Is it possible to buy additional acoustic drum kits for Session Drummer 3 from Cakewalk or a third party?  There are lots of drum samples around, but it would be great to have some sets that integrate with SD3 features and show up in the kit selection.

I am personally interested in acoustic kits, but I'm sure there is a market for all types.

They do, once you buy em.. you'll see them listed within SD3..

you can make your own , if you get versed with SFZ .. and use the other kits SFZ to give you pointers..

I made up patches previously for DP.. using existing samples from Music Radar's site maybe 1+ years ago (that was 26 kits)

I mentioned that something was coming for Session Drummer 3 that the OP might find interesting.  It just went live so I can now say that Platinum Samples has released a version the Andy Johns kit for Session Drummer 3.  It also includes a nice sampling of the Steve Ferrone and Bobby Jarzombek groove libraries.

It's available in the Cakewalk store as well as the Platinum Samples web site.  I'm a bit influenced by my betatesting association with Rail Jon Rogut and Platinum Samples but I really feel like this is the best library offered for Session Drummer 3 so far.  It's in your face with a balanced touch of bleed that makes it feel like a real session recording.  It makes Session Drummer very useable for someone who wants to stick with the included Cakewalk drum sampler.

    Check it out at www.platinumsamples.com

    Hey Dave
Bought the 2 AJ kits. They sound "great" IMHO. I have Steven Slate Drums also-but it's nice to have some nice stuff (besides  SSD and Ocean Way SD3) for Session Drummer 3. One is 611MB and the other is 837MB (about) That's some compression o0n the download-which is only 179MB-wow.
    Thanks for posting.

You get a lot of kits from Didgi stuff on CW site. But with the Ocean way free one and the SSD kits, and a few others that come with SD3 your fine. The AJ kits Dave posted about are "great"
The digi add on Accoustic kits are so-so, again IMHO

I checked out the samples very briefly.

Why do all the drum sample kits seem to all have giant-ass 80's rock sounds? With all the retro sounds the rage I'm surprised there's not more attention to older sounding drum kits.

Maybe Session Drummer needs a virtual towel you can toss over the drumheads.

Just started using EZdrummer and won't be going back to Session Drummer anytime soon. EZdrummer rocks!

I'm with you. Having the ability to blend ambient and overhead mics makes a big difference, and it is just so - well - EZ!

But, EZdrummer doesn't come with brush samples.. I believe you need the Jazz Expansion kit for brush samples..
Both the Jazz Expansion and the Nashville Expansion come with really nice brush kits.

I imagine it's like anything else, people produce what sells the most (if they get it right.)  Maybe Session Drummer 3 will someday have more control over room bleed and give the SONAR users the option to blend ambience to taste.  Of course, that will likely raise the cost of libraries and the core sampler.

    Hi Dave,
What is the size of this SD3 kit?

I don't know the exact details.  Here is a copy of the press release http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2295032 .

EDIT: I just noticed the retail price.  Forty bucks makes this pretty much a no brainer if you use Session Drummer 3 at all.  Even if you have another favorite drum sampler (), this price for the samples and grooves makes it darn attractive.

EZ drummer vintage kit is pretty nice if you don't have a real drummer--I personally use real drums--I program drums pro level, but the guy who does it for me is like light years ahead of me. He lives and breathes drums. 3 songs $250.

I bought the extra kits and they are worth the price many times over.

As a point of reference, I gladly bought a Linn LM-1 Drum Computer (serial number <100) in 1980 for around $5,000—over $11,000 in 2011 dollars.  Amazing...
