SD 3 automated velocity?

I've been trying to figure out the best way to adjust velocity on SD3.  I'm used to EZD which allows you to set the velocity before you drag the loop into your clip.  I can't find a way to do that in SD3.  So I'm wondering if I just drag all my loops into the track and arrange everything the way I want, if I can then go through with automation write enabled and adjust velocity on the fly with a knob on my midi controller?  Anyone ever do this, or is there a better way?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

After you drag all your clips or loops into the track, On the track the is a menu>ClipAutomation>velocities.
This will give you an envelope to easily adjust.  Hope that helps.

I'm used to EZD which allows you to set the velocity before you drag the loop into your clip.

I'm supposing this is just raising or lowering the velocity of all events by some percentage...? You can do this in various ways with SONAR after bringing the MIDI clip into a track. Process > Scale Velocities is probably the simplest.

If you just want a fixed offset, you can use the Vel+ setting in the MIDI track (Now called "Gain" in X1), which is what the Velocity  Envelope controls. Or you can select events and drag velocities in the PRV. This has the added benefit of making it easy to select all the events for one kit piece, and raise or lower the overall velocities independently for that part.

Writing a velocity offset envelope would probably be my last choice.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!  I figured there had to be an easy way to do this without having to mess with each individual velocity in PRV.  I want to be able to add dynamics to the drum parts, but make sure it flows with the song and doesn't sound like it's jumping up and down.  I think the clip envelope idea will work best for me, so I can smoothly increase or decrease velocity within a clip (like a real drummer would).

Laney, thanks for the feedback on my tune.  Glad to hear you enjoyed it
