Plugins, they are working but I'm doin' it wrong...

I have Guitar Rig 4 open right now, but as I'm playing guitar-- its only the clean signal. When I play back what I recorded, it has the Guitar Rig 4 preset over it! What am I doing wrong?

    Welcome to the forum.

Not exactly sure what you mean, in your first sentence.

SONAR doesn't record the GR4 process as you record the guitar. Once you have your guitar (dry signal) recorded you bounce the track with the plugin inserted and it will render the processed guitar. Or you can just play the guitar track and if you have input echo active you will hear the recorded guitar track processed through GR4 without necessarily recording the effected signal

You might need to explain a little more.

Is this the only way you're able to record with plugins?

Plugins don't record.  X1 is nondestructive. See post 2 for details.

Maybe your buffers/latency is set too low.

    Agreed on latency.

I was having some clicks and latency issues listening to input echo with GR, but not with anything else.

Try playing with your latency settings to see if you can get the clicks to go away.  And also make sure your OS is optimized for DAW use...  that can also go a long way in fixing latency issues!
