Waste / Waist
… was driving on route 1 south last night behind a large garbage hauling truck. Normally these things have a sign on the back of them that says “Municipal Waste” (I see them on the NJ highways all the time). They are the ones that you try to avoid because they have a tarp on top of them that does not stop the debris from flying out. Spray painted (in stencil) on the back of this one was “Municipal Waist”. At that moment I just assumed it was a humorous spelling mistake but in retrospect, I am now thinking it may have been the work of a witty and politically savvy municipal employee commenting either on the expenditures during election campaigns or possibly the cost of local corruption.

But then maybe they were related to Foxworthy. They painted "male" on their mailbox and nobody got it!

EH? that would be 'waste' too.... A waist is where the top of your trousers[pants] gets to.

EH? that would be 'waste' too.... literally yes, but I meant that more as a play on words ... a corpulent politician (i.e., waist band) as a metaphor for waste.

:) That's a good one, Dave. I'm also curious to know if they meant it or not. Since Mike mentioned mailboxes, I'll just say around here (smallville, USA), a couple of the mail carriers are women. So, they've painted U.S. Femail on the side of their mail-pickup. :)

There was a politician in OK years ago named Larry Derryberry. It's not offensive or embarrassing or anything, but I've always wondered what on earth his parents were thinking! :)

quantumeffect ... are you implying that NJ is a state of rednecks I don't believe that NJ is a Redneck-free zone. They're out there if you look hard enough. When I was a young lad going to tech school in good ol' NJ. I had a lab partner who you'd swear he was from the deep south because of his accent. He came from the south alright--somewhere between Atlantic City and Cape May. Other than his accent, he wasn't a redneck. He just sounded like one. I have run across a few rednecks back there--just as I have here in CA.
