Belated upgrade ...

Hi
I apologize for what may appear a naive question: I've been a full-time pro user of Cakewalk/ Sonar since DOS 4 but don't tend to keep up with technical advances until forced to.

Currently I'm running Sonar 8.3.1 on XP. However, I'm aware that I'm going to have to move to Win 7 and, once bugs are sorted, move to X1 (or what ever it will be by that stage). My current machine has caddys so I'll install Win 7 on a spare caddy and update in stages. My questions are, what version of Win 7 would you recommend installing and will the 8 Gig RAM my MB is limited to, be sufficient for the foreseeable future?
Many thanks
FS

Since you will have 8 gb ram, the minimum Win 7 would be Home Premium 64 bit (support up to 16 gb). Win 7 32 bit would only support up to less than 4 gb ram. 8 gb will be good enough.

Just make sure your hardware have drivers for Win 7 64 bit support before you upgrade the os.

Also, X1 pro installs both 32 and 64 bits, depending on your os, so you may not want to upgrade the os just yet ?

i use home windows 7 service pack 1 only 4 gigs 64 bit and sonar x1 runs awesome.
with both patches and the latest two quickfixes i think you can put the bug problem straightened out away.
i had barley any problems out of the gate.and i use midi, audio, autosnap, exc.just not piano roll so much.

Currently using a Layla 24 which appears to have drivers available to support 64 win 7. Planning to upgrade to a RME Fireface shortly but the Layla should tide me over.
Cheers & thanks for your sage advice

Thanks Charlie. May still get the extra 4 Gig while the lid's off and the oil's being changed.
    Cheers
