Code 5 - mscvr71.dll Install failure

Win7/64
Installing X1 both as 32bit version and as 64bit version gives an error.
The only hint I found in the forum is running the install as admin, but that didn't change anything either.

I need a simple anwer from Cakewalk:
- I skipped the install and X1 seems to run ok, but do I still have to fix the missing file?
- if so, how is it possible after install?
- what is it supposed to do anyway?

Just have to be sure I got no source of possible trouble.

The later (msvcr71.dll) can be had from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr71.

Error 5 is "access denied".  Either a file you're trying to replace is in use by another program, or you don't have administrator privileges. Reboot, log in as Administrator, make sure nothing is running that isn't essential, and re-install.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Thanks for the answers!

I ran the install file as admin: didn't help.
I will not try the same after killing all kinds of Win7 processes: I think a software install should work without such efforts.

On the other hand, I get no "mscvr71.dll" related error messages (missing file etc.) at all.
So my main question is if it is worth the effort of even caring about the issue.
I can start and use X1 without problems, but I don't want to run into problems in midst of a project.

Any clarification from Cakewalk staff appreciated.

This is most likely your virus scanner preventing the Microsoft C++ libraries from being installed. A lot of them don't like installers writing to the System32 folder.

This pops up a lot if you already have the library installed and you're trying to write over it. You should be okay.

    Best Regards,

    Oh yes, thanks.

After the updates and quickfixes it is really becoming a pleasure to use X1, even on the limited screen of a 16:9 recording notebook.
