Sonar/Soft Synth sample locations best practice

Best Practice.
____________

Hi Folks,

I have a question. When we install Sonar or any soft synths, where is the ideal place to store the sound samples? Like in the case of let's say Dimension Pro or for that matter even softsynths from NativeInstuments, which comes close to 90GB of samples, where should the samples go, should they be placed in the 'C' partion(System partion) or in the partion meant for data, be it 'D', 'E' etc. Of course things will work the same despite where we place the samples, but what is the best practice? Hope you guys can share with me your experience and views. Thanks.

regards

In my opinion it is best not to partition a hard drive for separate logical drives.  I recommend buying another hard drive and putting your samples on it.

I have 3 major hard drives for my DAW; 1 for the OS, 1 for samples, 1 for Audio (projects to record to).  all of these are internal SATA, 7200rpm, non-"green" drives.

I have 2 minor drives - both USB external, one for backups one for "downloads" where I download all of my updates and download programs.
