Never posted in here before but.... [ now with streaming link ]

My band have started writing our first album for over 10years!!

The linked tune is a demo (instrumental) for a tune on this album that I (alone) have made in X1....and I thought I might throw it out to you guys for a limited period so that I might obtain feedback from you musos.

So how'd you like it?
Edit2: Download link removed so as to not use all my yousendit bandwidth at once

Edit: streaming link in post #7 and here:

I'd like it in streaming format on soundclick or reverbnation actually.

I don't like having to download a file to hear a song. sorry....

Most folks don't like to have to download tunes to listen and comment.  Too many issues with viruses. I think usendit has a player available.

yeah, the virus/malware thing is my main reason.

Man, if you don't want people to listen that's up to you. No skin off my back.

Stream it and I'll be more than happy to have a listen and comment.

oh well.....yousendit doesn't have a streamer (at least not on the free accounts).....I'm not uploading it anywhere else...I just loaded it here to distribute to the rest of the band and thought it'd do no harm letting those of you brave enough to download it do that also...
I certify it virus free but then how can you trust me?
It can of course be virus checked before playing can't it?

not gonna stick it on soundclick or owt as eventually it will go on our next album (albeit probably not this mix) and will be sold through usual channels (iTunes/mflow/amazon etc etc)

Like the arrangement, acoustic sounds perfect, the low end cello-y thing sounds a bit stock to me when it changes notes, though. The sax thing doesn't work as presently offered. Perhaps with some reverb to give it some distance would help.

Drums sound great, get overwhelmed by the guitars at 2:08.  Though I would think about putting a hard compressor on the crash, as it is just too loud.

    Will there be any lyrics?

That is a great mix for a demo.

    Very moving piece.

Thanks for sharing Twigman (if that's your real name).

Congrats on the album project! I love dark moody stuff like this - it's off to a nice start!! I enjoyed all of the twists and turns in the arrangement.

I think the acoustic guitar should be less brighter so that would fit better with the darker mood.  Maybe a nylon string?  The sax does not work.  There are other sax synths out there, try experimenting with them.

Otherwise I really like the song.  A dark semi-electronica theme.

    Thanks for the feedback guys........

let me tell you what's there....

I am no guitarist ( i play 4 string bass in the band)....

the acoustic guitar is Orange Tree Samples EAG Steel Strings for Kontakt4
the electric guitars are OTS EEG Strawberry in Kontakt4
the drums are SuperiorDrummer2 - apart from the reverse crash which is just a sample I have
    the 'cellos' are Nexus1
the 'piano with the strings in the tail' is Nexus1 also
the bass is currently using CW studio instruments bass(!!)
The synths before the guitar part are a mix of Nexus and DimPro(bassoon)
The 'sax' is Kontakt using a couple of NI factory patches.

no 'real' instruments were touched in the making of this demo!

I agree that the sax bit needs work - that is definitely the part of the arrangement that I am still troubled by.....I am looking forward to hearing how our sax player plays it.....

This was mixed in my spare bedroom studio on cans - my kids were asleep in the next room......

I am moving out next week into my own place due to my marriage breakdown (been couped up since the 'split' in the same house since August last year)...so I will start to be able to mix on monitors for a change and hope to get better balanced mixes as a result.

    Hi,

Very cool song and arrangement.  Would love to hear it after your band-mates add their parts.

Hey... that's what I'm talking about! I really like this. Aside from the nits with the crappy samples that everyone has already mentioned.... better samples or real players will really make this shine.

    Sax..... you know.....

Bass, ..... do you have sound center from Cake? It's in MC5 and X1 IIRC.... I use the Bass> synth Bass> Ricko Bass on many of my projects where I play the bass using samples. I too use lots of sampled instruments. It has a nice rich, deep, wirey sound, like a Ricko bass.

Good song, and thanks for posting it on sound click.

Thanks Twiggy? I actually already downloaded it, modified it slightly? Re-uploaded it? And copyrighted my version. We're going to press (CDs) in two weeks... Preciate ya ;-)

Going to add my own bass to this.

Bizarrely just heard fom our singer/sax player who dislikes the electric guitar part, claiming it destroys the mood of the piece :( - I just don't think he gets it...in my mind that section is totally necessary and drives the tune on into the end bit........he may need convincing if I am to get this song onto the album without a total rewrite :-(
