Rene no longer works for Cakewalk!?
So, according to a post by Rene on KVR, he no longer works for Cakewalk. KVR Thread Here You have to go down the page about 2/3 of the way to get to Rene's post. I wonder if this means Rapture 2 is not in the cards anymore. (I posted this here because this forum gets more traffic than the Instruments forum)

That doesn't necessarily mean Rapture is dead. Although René led the team, it was a collaborative effort. Click on the Rapture logo on the synth to see the list of credits. Note that René isn't the only name on that list who doesn't cut code at Cakewalk anymore.

Yeah, I saw that too. Bummer, but not completely unexpected. My personal view/observation, and without any judgement one way or another, is that Cake has been pretty well refocused. Like I said, it's nothing but opinion, and I'm not saying it's good or bad, but they're a pretty different company now... from outward appearance... to me. They seem to be 2 parts Edirol (which has also been absorbed), making/selling hardware, and 1 part software (Sonar). That's fine, but if I were a premiere instrument developer, I'd have been worried about the soundness of sticking around. Of course, I could be completely wrong, and have no idea why he isn't around anymore. It's just a feeling I have about the direction Cake's moving with the proliferation of (essentially Edirol-like) hardware, discontinuation of P5, length of time between Rapture/Dim Pro upgrades (not updates... but new versions). I wish him well, as I do all the Cakewalk employees. - zevo

Hmmm ... I remember a number of years ago that Cakewalk sent an e-mail about a new revolutionary synth that the would debut at an upcoming trade show but at the last minute it was pulled. Not sure if it's related to Rene leaving but I always wondered what happened with that and why it was never re-introduced. Anyone remember this? Here's a link: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1601809&high=super Cheers, jayson

The uber synth was supposed to be beatscape, from what I understand. Didn't quite pan out. Sad about Rene - he was great. That being said there is nothing wrong with DimPro or Rapture. Great synths, esp. if they keep updating the libraries. I'm not sure what else they need for updates, other than to sell the newer units. I would like Beatscape to be upgraded. It has potential, but is still too clunky. Any other synth I'd be interested would need to be different. I've got DimPro and Rapture for samples, Komplexer for AV/wavetable, Alchemy for AV/granular, Sytus for FM. I'm not sure I need another synth, tho I'd love to be proved wrong. Other than a beatscape update, a Roland style V-soft-synth would be tres cool. Not a replacement for Alchemy, but in addition. And Komplexer won't go to 64 bit, so maybe a wavetable synth .... @

Sorry. Didn't mean to imply that Dim Pro and Rapture are lacking, really. Dim Pro and Rapture are two of maybe eight of my go to instruments. They're fantastic. I'd like some Kore-like patch management (a lot, actually), and I'd like a few UI tweaks (particularly to Rapture, which I find a bit more challenging to program with the small/dark fonts)... but they certainly don't block me, and they find their way into nearly every track I do. Wonder what he's doing now (Rene)... - zevo

Yea, Cake could probably do some more with them. And they added the patch managment w/ the new sound thinggy in X1. That shouldn't be too hard to update the browser. I would like to see Rapture replace DimPro for adding longer samples rather than wavetable synthesis only, as long as they redo the patches from DimPro to it. Hopefully Rene is doing well and working on a new synth. @
