Sonar Home Studio7 or Sonar X1?
I have Cakewalk Home Studio 2 but never really learned how to use it (family, career, etc.). I now have a Roland XP-60 keyboard with tons of instruments and sounds that I want to use with Cakewalk. I mostly want to record acoustic piano and then add other instruments and sounds digitally. Which product would be the easiest to learn and use while providing the most features?

if you havent had any experience or very little.id say home studio 7xl.it has some piano effects.keyboards,demention pro le.its a great place to start and for only 99 doallars itsa steal.it does almost everything x1 does except a few features and minus a bunch of plug ins..i cation new users who jump right in to x1.its easy to loose interest real fast with a daw you cant figure out how to use.trust me.i started on cakewalk pro audio 9.0 and to me that was difficult.but with peserverence and the will to want.youll have no probs with hs7xl.its actually alot like the one i started on.c.w.pro audio 9.
its also a great way to learn and enjoy easy functions.then as you improve bump up to x1..or by then..x2.
i suggest you watch a few videos on cake tv to get an idea of whats what.or even google home studio 7 xl and then x1.there is a big jump.best of luck and welcome to the forum my friend

I don't have X1, but I have read that some folks are having problems with it. Others have posted that it works fine for them.
I vote for SHS 7. SHS 6 works great for me. Get the XL version if you can afford the extra $30-$40. That comes with the Garritan Pocket Orchestra and some more stuff, too.
Oh. What's your operating system?

I have to agree with the guys.
Sonar Home Studio is $49, and the XL version is $79.
The user interface was designed to be relatively easy to use.
It is stable, and fairly mature.
X1 is very new and it has been experiencing some growing pains.
I have X1 Essentials, and so far it has been behaving fairly well on my aging system (see specs below). It does not have the functions that seem to be causing most of the problems with the more elaborate versions.
It looks like you will be placing a heavy emphasis on realtime audio recording (output from your keyboard).
I would strongly suggest investing in a decent soundcard/interface if you don't already have one.

I love HS7XL and have no plans to migrate to X1 until the endless issues are resolved. Which seems to be a long way in the future.
You can't go wrong with HS7XL.

ARGH! I see that Sonar Home Studio has been discontinued! Is it still available for purchase and supported by Cakewalk?

looks like it was taken out of the estore just recently. I know someone said they purchased it just a couple of days ago.
so, X1 Essentials is it's replacement.

To me it would not make sense to go with Home Studio 7 even if it were available. X1 is the latest product and eventually you would have to upgrade to it anyway. Why go through the learning curve twice?

as I said, it was there a couple of days ago, but now it is not. it looks like they have recently stopped selling it. X1 is your only option at this point.

I just bought Home Studio 7XL off of ebay.
I was going to buy it as the down load from the store but procrastinated.When I went back to down load it the program had been discontinued. I checked ebay and got it for $37.00!
When I checked ebay and Amazon there were still some copies for sale at varying prices.
As for buying the old version in stead of the new X1 - I have an older computer that is not capable of running X1.I just finished my 1st recording with 7xl and I like it.I have a lot to learn but I enjoy it.Good luck.
