Is it just me, or is Media Payer in Win7 REALLY unstable?

I have all my commercial albums on a usb HDD, and Media Player (Win 7 32bit) hangs 9 out of 10 times when I launch it. What the?!

which version of WMP are you using?  I have the latest version on win7 64bit and I have never experienced a problem like you're describing.

well, actually I have now that I think about it, but it's always when I have sonar open and the sample rate for sonar has the soundcard set to something other than 44.1kHz.  if your soundcard is not set to 44.1kHz then WMP will freeze up.

Copy a handful of tunes to local HD...
Do you experience the same behavior?

I'll check that one Jim and let you know. I use whatever WMP version Win7 SP1 ships with - it just hangs, Sonar open or not.

I experience the same thing.  It goes unresponsive as it updates file info or something.  I hate it.  But I hate the alternatives worse.

I've been using Media Player Classic Home Cinema as an alternative to WMP. Occasionally I'll get a video that just won't play in WMP (usually responds with an error), but MPC will.

I like WMP's search engine - GUI, maybe cause I'm used to it. But for an ANYTHING-player, VLC is it, IMO.
