No sound through headphones

Hi there
I'm using a VS100 with Sonar X1.

I assumed that by inserting headphones in the PHONES socket that it would override the sound output. I hear nothing through the headphones (at max headphone volume).

Have I got a dodgey phone socket?  I hope not because I have a few days off and want to get stuck into some recording!!

Can anyone help?

Cheers JP

    hi phajo,
welcome. do you have audio from your speakers? if so, are you using the main outs 1-2 on the vs100 to your speakers? that is the same signal that the headphone jack receives.

otherwise, are your channel knobs and playback knob turned up?

    hope that helps.

Has this always worked for you, or are you just starting to learn the VS-100? If you are new to the VS-100, you need to take some time to learn it before diving into a project, as that will just be a lesson in frustration.

As M@ B says, the headphone output is tied to output 1&2. The phone jack will not override this output, it will work at the same time.

Here are the steps for a quick test.

1: Plug something into input 1
    2: Turn up input 1 to 12 o'clock
3: Turn up the Main Mix to 12 o'clock
4: Make sure the headphone output is turned up.

You should now here sound, both out the headphone jack, and also from the outputs 1&2.

If you don't, then you need to check one more thing - called "Daw Full Asgn". If that is set to ON, then the mixer portion of the VS-100 does not work, and may provide unpredictable results to the outputs. Here are the steps to check that setting.

    1: Push and hold the DISPLAY/MENU button for 2 - 3 seconds.
2: Turn the SELECT button to scroll through the menu. 5th or 6th from the bottom is the "DAW Full Asgn" settings.
3: Make sure that is set to OFF, then try everything over again.

    Good luck.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

    Thanks for the tips.

I've decided to buy a headphone amp to maximise my sound monitoring. This solved the problem.
