Can't record MIDI from electronic drum kit (sometimes SOLVED...sometimes not ...)

I want to use my Yamaha DTexpress II drum kit to record drums (MIDI) and use the sounds from Native Instruments Abbey Road 70's drums. But I can't record MIDI or trigg the sounds!
If I draw notes in the PRV it plays fine, but nothing records when I arm the track and push record. I've set the MIDI channels to OMNI on both the track and the synth input, and when I hit the pads I can see the signals on the MIDI track and the synth.
I feel very stupid because I've been recording MIDI a million times before, but now i just can't get it to work. I also know that I've done this (the electronic set -> Abbey road drums) before with good results.....

so please help me find the magic button that I can't find!

Make sure you have a channel selected in the MIDI track otherwise the softsynth (Abbey Road drums) won't see the input.

    Thanks for the reply Dave.
It wasn't the problem ( I think), but after several clicks and a lot of bad words and swearing it suddenly works. Don't know why or what I did wrong but it now works and I'm in my happy place again.
The only thing that I know is different now, is that i've installed the quick fix since my OP. Can that be the reason???

Well, my happiness was short lived. I'm back at start.
Can't get any note to trigger the abbey set.
But now I'm able to record controller data, but no MIDI notes?????
Have I lost my mind or what?
When I hit the pads, I see that the MIDI signal goes  via the MIDI track and into the Kontakt player(Abbey road host). I have double and tripple cheked the MIDI channels and input/output but I can't get it to work. But if I draw notes in the PRV everything works fine.....The funny thing is that it worked earlier today

    any suggestions???

...and tonight everything works fine..... .
Can it be something as simple as a bad MIDI cable that gives me grey hairs???

Good question.  I'm having a similar problem that just started last night and have been pulling my hair out.  I'm on build 246 and had previously been able to record MIDI fine and now... nothing.  Setup of my Kurzweil PC3 all looks good in the prefs, and I ran my PC3 signal in to MIDOX just to be sure it was outputting correctly (it was), but when I try to set my MIDI channel on the track in Sonar it stays stuck on "None".  I even tried creating new projects and this problem persists.  I tried toggling the MIDI echo on the track and in prefs but same result.

Tonight I'm going to try rolling back the 246 quick fix and see what happens.  If that doesn't work I'm going to likely try reinstalling Sonar.

Let us know if you find a fix, maybe our problems will have a common source.  Good luck!

OK, rolled back to build 242, problem seems to be solved.  Going to fill out a bug report.
