Step Sequencer Bug?

Please try to duplicate this:

In a project that has multiple audio/midi tracks, select a midi track. Arm for recording.
Open the control bar, and select step recording. Click on the icon again to begin step recording.
Hit one chord on your controller keyboard. Close step record dialog.

On which track did your midi chord go?
For me, it ends up on a non-selected track, in a closed track folder. The track I armed for recording is blank.

Is this a known issue?

    Check the Destination Track setting in the Step Recoding dialog. It is not necessary to arm a track for step recording, and SONAR pays no attention to what track is selected. All that matters is what that Destination Track is.
     
    I believe that track will default to the selected MIDI track (or the first MIDI track in the project if an audio track is selected) when you first enable step recording in a project and remain assigned to that track until you change it. Selecting another track will not automatically change the Destination Track setting for Step Recording. And if you have no MIDI track in a project when you first enable Step Recoding, it will create one at the end of the project, which may be how you got in the situation you describe.

    Thanks, that works for me.
    The rule would be to always select a destination track within the step record dialog.
