Track output low though meters look good

I'm working on a project that started in 8.5.3 and moved to X1B.  I recorded a few tracks in 8.5.3 (on top of a dozen or so existing tracks), then opened the project in X1B for mixing.   (I figure I'll never learn to use X1 until I actually use it, and the new tools really are very nice.)

One of the new tracks is vastly reduced in volume compared to the others, for no reason I can see.  The track output meter shows it to be louder than the others, and it's going to the same output buss.  After half an hour trying to fix the problem, during which I checked and re-checked all levels, sends, and output routings for tracks and busses, I decided to export the audio and re-import it to a new track.  When I did, the exported audio had zero volume--a flatline.  I closed the project in X1B and went to 8.5.3--same issue.

It just occurred to me that I switched from WDM to ASIO in X1B just prior to this occurring, mostly in order to see if X1B would crash when I did (as X1 crashed the first time I tried to change driver modes).  Does that have something to do with it?

My next move will be to create a new track and copy the near-silent track's clips to it, which will probably work.  But I'd really like to know what's going on here.

I think your problem is a direct consequnce of opening up an old project in X1 and expecting it to work.

I've no figures to back this up, but I'd suggest there's about a 50/50 split between those users who CAN open up old projects successfully in X1 and those users who can't, but encounter problems such as yours.

The only way I can get X1 to behave normally is by only using it for creating brand new projects.

There have been suggestions that opening up an older project in Safe Mode in X1, and re-enabling all plug ins one by one can overcome some of these limitations. This is something I've not tried myself, but I know a couple of people who have and they say it works fine.

    Noted, thanks.

FYI, I went back to a slightly earlier version of the project in 8.5.3, and completed it with no problems (although it was sad to work without the Pro Channel...).

Another possibility is having inadvertently gone into offset mode(Hitting the letter "O").  It would be indicated by a "+" sign next to where it says volume in track view or next to the "0" (zero) at the bottom of the volume meter in the track inspector.   Then if you set the volume level to approximately where it was (assuming around -6) then it would further reduce the volume by another -6.
