Anyone here use Stylus RMX with Sonar X1?

I have this recurring problem - most times when I drag the midi from Stylus to the Sonar track view, the midi clip ends up on the wrong track.
How do you make sure the Stylus clip lands in the correct Sonar track?

Is there a special "spot" where you should release the mouse button?

Thanks

I think what you have to do is before you drag the MIDI, click on the track number you want to drag it to, so that the track is selected.

It's a known issue with Stylus & Sonar.  If you setup a template with 8 tracks, one dedicated to each Stylus channel & then drag the midi clip to the 1st channel / track, it will position itself in the correct track.

Thanks for the advice, but neither suggestion works.
Pre-selecting the drop-track still results in the midi clip being dumped in a different folder, and setting up a template with 8 RMX midi tracks and audio outputs is how I normally work.
I have figured out that the midi clip is usually dropped 5 tracks below the selected target track, so now I drop it into a track 5 above the intended track. It works.

I'm thinking I didn't explain my solution well, because it does indeed work & I've been using it for a long time... I learned the trick here a few years ago from other users' same complaint.

You don't need to pre-select a track as long as you have 8 Stylus tracks in succession (e.g. tracks 1-8).  Simply drag the midi clip from Stylus onto the 1st track and it will land on the correct track for whatever channel / part of Stylus you were dragging from.

I don't have time to do a comprehensive step by step, but I hope that helps- it's a lot simpler than trying to mentally offset where you drop the file!  :)

I've always used the above method successfully in 8.5.

i'm very curious to see if this works - i've been using RMX for a long time now, and have just been living with the issue.

when i drag the first midi file, it land in track 1, but when i drag the second one, it ends up on track 3. when i drag the third one, it lands on track 5.

repeatable. crazy. never been such a huge deal, as i can easily drag the file onto the right track after.

    anyone?

I'd be interested to know if X1 behaves differently.  The logic in 8.5 is very simple - have 8 midi tracks, always drag your file to track 1 and Sonar puts it on the correct channel.

Chez- as noiseboy & I have said- always drag to the 1st track / channel assigned to Stylus.  Sonar will place it on the correct track if you do.

Quirky behaviour (not sure if it is a Sonar issue or Spectrasonics) but yes dragging to the first MIDI track does work here. I have used that method many times.

    Hi Guys!

I don't use or own Stylus RMX, but it looks prety cool.

I went to thier website and found this tutorial.
It "seems" like it should answer your problems with the set-up of this plug-in!

    Hope this helps!!

Drag all clips to track one.  They position themselves correctly  I am an avid RMX user.

Thanks for the tips, fellow RMX users, from now on I shall heed the command to drag to track one!

Harpo: I recommend you get RMX, it is by far the best drums software on the market, and best of all, you don't end up sounding like every other sample CD.

Yes, you should always drag your midi clip to the first midi track, and RMX will put it in the correct place.
This is how it's supposed to work, it's not a bug or any kind of issue with either Sonar or the plugin.

It caught me by surprise the first time I used RMX, so I watched some tutorials and referred to the help - and it works quite wonderfully !.
Harpo: I recommend you get RMX, it is by far the best drums software on the market, and best of all, you don't end up sounding like every other sample CD.

RMX is definitely a very cool tool, but it's not the be all and end all for drums.
If I can't have anything else, I just want a good sounding drum kit that uses standard MIDI.
    Next I want RMX !

The biggest pain with RMX is also in some ways a cool feature.
All the 'grooves' are represented in MIDI by a chromatic scale, so if you want to take your groove from RMX to another
drum/percussion VST, it's not a simple task. In fact it can be very tedious, time consuming, and painful.

For most of what I do that is purely musical (as opposed to commercial), I like to write the drum parts. It's only the very occasional
thing I do where I would find a fabricated drum part appropriate for the piece.

In those instances where I really don't need to write my own drum part, I'm finding RMX is indispensable.
The options with "Chaos", Time Designer and Groove Locking are just amazing.  Once you get your head around it, you can
get amazing results in record time.

Totally blew my wife away when I showed her what could be done in just a few minutes with RMX.

For commercial stuff - jingles etc., where you just need to get the job done and sounding good, RMX is a life saver for me.
RMX has fast become my one "go to tool" - where in the past I'd dig through all kinds of Rhythm VSTs and loops.

So I mostly have to agree that RMX is the best 'groove/drum software' that I'm aware of, and now I have it I wouldn't be without it.

    Best wishes - Cliff

    Just another one for you...

You don't have to create any midi tracks at all. Just drag the clip out of Stylus and the relevant midi track is automatically created.

Create a template of Stylus with just 8 audio tracks & off you go.

    Yea,

    It does look "very" cool.

I was checking out the vids for this product and was pretty impressed by the ease of use as well as the ability to sound good without too much fuss.

Right now I'm using BFD2 and Session Drummer3.
Session Drummer 3 gets the job done for projects that don't have to be too focused on the drum parts (with not too much fuss though, you can get some very good tracks laid out), and though it takes a bit of patience, BFD2 does an "amazing" job for me on projects where I have to pay attention to detail on my drum tracks.

I have a couple of other studio "toys" on my priority list right now, but Stylus RMX has definitely been put on the list!

    This was fun! Thanks everyone!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

I've wrestled with this ever since i purchased Stylus, and was resolved to having to deal with it for the rest of my days.
Now it's FIXED - and as usual, the problem was me, not the software.

I love Stylus. It has tonnes of flexibility. Creating your own beats from their sound library is fun and easy, so you don't HAVE to use their stock loops if you're against that.

    Can't recommend the package enough.

    Thanks again everyone.

You're welcome... and for what it's worth, it wasn't you, it IS the software.  You just didn't know the "work-around" to a glitch that I suspect is a Stylus issue more than a Sonar one.
