UPDATE: Can't overdub modulation wheel events (Bug caused by quick fix 246)
I can't overdub modulation wheel events on existing midi tracks unless I'm playing the the note and using the modulation wheel at the same time. I'm NOT looking to correct this with envelopes or in the PRV. I should be able to play and record modulation wheel movements on top of existing midi events. I have a the quickfix 246 and a prochannel panup mod too. Update: After I couldn't fix this problem I went back to X1b from quickfix 246, made sure ALL my settings and preferences were where I needed them to be (even set my keyboard controller back to it's default settings). The control wheel events overdubbed onto an existing midi track correctly. Just to make sure the problem WAS caused by 246 I reinstalled the quick fix and the problem came back.

Hi twisted6s, I don't have any trouble recording / overdubbing midi. I record modwheel / expression pedal either overdub to existing midi tracks, or sometimes I even record CCs to a separate track. All I can think of to suggest is check all your MIDI recording preferences - make sure it's set to blend new data with existing data. Sorry if that's not much help, but at least I can confirm that overdubbing for MIDI is working here. Hope you get it sorted. Cheers - Cliff

I don't think it's a bug, I just don't know why I can't do it unless I'm using the wheel and creating notes at the same time.

Could you do this at some point in the past, or is this the first time you've tried it? I'm wondering if it might be a quirk of your MIDI keyboard. Maybe you have an alternate controller or synth around you could try instead? Any synth with a mod wheel should be OK.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

bitflipper, when you get a minute, could you calculate the integral in your signature from -e to e? I like my truth to be definite rather than indefinite. thanks.

It's funny but I know I used to do it in 8.5 but I haven't tried to overdub control wheel until now in X1(in most cases I just play the darn keyboard). I'm just going to have to play and modulate at the same time for now. I only have one controller, m-audio keystation pro 88. I was thinking on my way to work it might be my keyboard only sending out the wheel info when the keys are struck......we'll see

I don't know anything about the keystation pro, but I believe some controllers may send CC data on an alternate channel. So it may be worth it to try selecting OMNI rather than a specific channel for the MIDI input. Were you using the keystation pro in 8.5 ?. Let us know how it goes. Cheers - Cliff

I see from a later post that you layered MIDI data previously in 8.5. The setting just somehow got set to the wrong thing in X1. With Blend on you can have hundreds of MIDI passes recorded on the same track. Perfecting the results in PRV of course doesn't hurt, but you don't want that to replace live recording, I understand. I just tried it, and could not reproduce a problem with build 246. Mod Wheel overdubs fine. I gather you can overdub new notes okay; what about other controllers or pitch wheel? If you split the Instrument Track (if that;s what you're using) so you can see the MIDI track meter, do you see MIDI activity when moving the mod wheel before starting recording? I can't imagine why simultaneously playing notes would be necessary to either generate or record mod wheel (CC1). EDIT: I'm wondering how playing notes affects the recording of mod wheel events. Are you saying you have to have at least one note held in order for mod wheel to be generated/recorded?

Check THIS out...I just noticed it DOES record the events but then collapses the clip to a thin line so I have to click and drag the recording out!?!?! Notes record fine but modulation and pitchbend have this issue and it only happened after I went from X1b to build 246. It will only create the full clip if I'm playing notes while working the wheel. I've gone back to X1b for now (I really didn't have a problem with X1b just wanted the latest update Tha'ts what I get for trying to be with the "IN" crowd).

twisted6s Check THIS out...I just noticed it DOES record the events but then collapses the clip to a thin line so I have to click and drag the recording out!?!?!... Sounds like you're describing looking at the track with Layers on - The over-dubs in a multi-passed track can really add up, and the resulting recording can become extremely narrow. - I leave all my tracks separate like that, but turn the Layers off so I just see the track. It's an issue with some people though, wanting all data to be contained in a solid clip without having to constantly bounce to clip - There's a setting, can't think of it off hand, a recent thread brought it up, so that multi-passes go into one clip instead of layers. RB I changed that preference back and forth when I was troubleshooting so I don't think that was it, and even if it was the quick fix shouldn't have affected my preferences right? By the way I only had one "layer" and then the attempt to overdub with no success. It may NOT be happening to many people but I'm quite sure it's a hot fix bug because it only happened when I went to build 246 from X1b. Maybe it's a Keystation Pro with build 246 issue?

I was trying to figure out what that could be, and it sounded like looking at a layer with the view layers option on. I dunno what the heck kinda deal! Randy B.
