Best driver for win7 64 bit?

I dont really know much about drivers. I was most familiar with the mme driver but my new laptop is 64 bit. I get a lag with my cakewalk soft synths and so i use the step sequencer for everything, unable to count on my controller. After ive recorded everything i want i switch to the asio4all driver and playback stops having problems, but idk why but after that if i decide to add any more tracks, those wont play through my monitors, they play through the default speakers on my laptop and i cant change the output, clicking on it does nothing. Are there better drivers for 64 bit, or can i make the a4a driver work better if i mess with the settings a bit, im not sure what to do about buffer size, sampling rate, driver bit depth, etc etc..

Your problem may be because of your audio sound card.  If you're using the sound card that is on your laptop's motherboard, you're probably doomed to less than stellar results.  You may need to purchase an external sound card that uses USB or Firewire.

I recently got X1 PE and a new laptop , and I have completely turned off the on board sound card and use my VS100 exclusively for sound output. With the ASIO drivers I am still experiencing audio pops in recording and playback...have tried various different settings in latency with little to no results. With other drivers I get nothing at all. I have not installed the x1B update as yet, any chance this will help with this issue? I guess my concern is the VS100 simply does not respond well in 24bit/48k setting, even at 44 its popping, not harshly just annoying and unwantedly!
I have looked all over this forum, and have found no threads directly addressing this issue..any help from anyone would be so greatly appreciated!
    Kind Regards,
    Gene

@Gene  Have you tried any OS tweaking.  You appear to have a fairly robust system, though.  On thing you may wish to try is go to Edit>Preferences, click on the Advanced on the bottom, Look under Audio>Configuration file.
    This is your Config. Sys.
One of the last choices if the "ThreadSchedulingModel"
This can be used to customize how Sonar deals with multiple cores.  It can be set to "0", "1", or "2".  My understanding is "0" is for one core, "1" is for 2 cores, and "2" is for more cores.  I have 6 cores, so I've got mine set to "2".
After you choose, then click on "Apply" and then "Close".
Some people have noticed a difference and others have not.  This "might" help.
    Good luck.
