Clicks while recording

Hey,

I was recodring my clarinet quartet and after a week i tried to begin work in sonar. I noticed already while recording that there was some clicks and crack when i listened it but i checked one (just one) of those clicks and it was not in the tape but was coming in random place in the recorded audio. Now that i have started working on it i note that some of those cracks arent coming randomly but always in the same places in the audio while still some are random. However i cant see even a slightest visual correspondece in the audio tracks wavepicture. In the recording process there was four single mics and one main stereo pair. The clicks can be heard in almost all of the tracks (for some reason i couldnt hear a clear click in bass clarinets audio track but cant be sure if it is or isnt there).

So can someone help me with this. Is there a way to save the project? I tried to export one clip to and wav file and listen if there was any clicks and yes, there was. Also the original audioclips which i imported to sonar had the clicks. Still i cant find any visual batch of those...

    Welcome to the forum!

    Please give your system specs, interface brand and driver mode to help us help you.
    What is your latency set to? It's a good move putting the specs in our signature to have them in your posts automatically.

    Such disturbing noises are usually due to poor drivers / wrong driver type  or too small buffers (=too short latency for the interface drivers to handle).

    Well i was using one of Turku Philharmonics' laptops so i dont have the specs here at home, but i am pretty sure that it wasnt at least the poorest kind of laptop because it was in professional use.

    I set the buffer length to max (something like 250 ms) because at first i taught the click were happening just because of the playback was too cpu-eating.

    Hope someone could still help me..

    The driver is the essential part, as is the interface.

    Most likely you have used the laptops integrated soundchip (??). Those are never good in recording, but as long as you're not doing multitracking and/or using heavy soft synths you should be able to do basic recording and playback without disturbance in the audio.

    If you're using MME driver, which is the most common with integrated chips, it might help to download and install the free ASIO4ALL driver. It has helped many.

    I used a firewire connected sound card and i dont know if there was a sounchip integrated in it or if it was in laptop.

    I'm just curious about if it is possible to repair the tapes? The thing that keeps me hoping so is that there was absolutely no sign of any cracks in the visuals of those audio tracks. I think there should be if the cracks and clicks were in the original audiofile which was recorded. Or am i wrong?
