Could you rephrase that? And are you asking for a feature, or reporting a problem?

In Sonar 7 the Staff View included a track listing on the right side of the screen. You could select the active track by clicking on of the tracks listed there. This feature was broken in 8 and 8.5. I don't have X1 or any of its variants, but I'm told this feature now works again, although I have no way of verifying.

To test, open several MIDI tracks in Staff View and select one as your active track. In 8.5 this was determined by the setting in the Track View. Now, record some notes. They should appear on the track you where expect them. Next, in Staff View, and without going back to Track View, select another track and record some notes. Which track did they appear on? In 7 they should appear on the new track. In 8.5 they appear on the original track. Where do they show up in X1?

With Allow "MIDI Recording Without an Armed Track" enabled (which is the only way this would work), changing track selection in the Staff view does not change the focus in the Track View, and thus the new material does not go into the desired track.

But it's easy enough to click the Arm button in the Staff view, which will ensure that the new material goes to the desired track.

I always use track arming to control what gets recorded where. The other way seems too prone to errors even if the track selection were synced up everywhere.
