Anyone using WAVES signature series plugs?
Id like your opinion on the Wave Signature Series plugins... In your opinion are they worth the money. I have ordered an ilok so that I can download a demo. Thanks, Jeff

I used to use the Waves Diamond Bundle but I found that most of the fx that come with Sonar were as good if not better. Sonitus is my go to for most of my mixes, and I'm finding the pro channel is useful as well and anything extra I needed I could always find a good free fx plugin just by asking for an opinion from the forum members. I get amazing results by knowing HOW to use them as opposed if they are the magic bullet for a sound I'm looking for.

Hey Jeff, ol pal. I use both the Tony Maserati and Chris Lord-Alge bundles and find both of them very useful. On the projects I'm working on right now I'm tending to use the CLA a bit more. Chris has done a great job of giving you both good solid foundation presets and superb "studio effects" presets. If I had to just have one it would be CLA. I've listened to the demos of the Eddie Kramer and Jack Joeseph Puig bundles and while I'm sure they are very useful as well...they didn't make my putter flutter. I'm sure it's a matter of taste and preference. Don't forget to look at some of the indiviual native plugs Waves has on sale right now at blowout prices. RVerb for only $38 is quite remarkable. HTH.

The signature series are great plug-ins, but not that flexible compared to individual components. Each plugin is a preset combination of EQ, Dynamics (Comp/Lim/Expander), certain effects, etc... but you don't have the controls to fine tune these. That said - they sound great! If you were to try and combine other plug-ins to get the sounds that these things do as soon as they are inserted it would likely be a lesson in frustration. Here is how I look at it! If you are good with plug-ins and know how to combine dynamics/eq/effects to get a variety of sounds, then you might find the signature series a little limited. If you are not that experienced, a hobbyist or even a project/demo studio that needs fast results - they would become a great tool for getting really good sounds - really quickly. The hardest part would be choosing the right flavor (CLA, Kramer, Maserati, JJP) for your tastes.
Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take! I agree with codamedia, great plugins but not very flexible if you know what you want and have an idea of how to get that with plugins. I use the waves studio classics collection (SSL, Neve and API dynamics and eq's) and the CLA classic compressors and I love the sound character and flexibility that I get with those plugins. I don't use anything else for eq and dynamics. I recommend you to try the signature series and some of the classic collections and compare them before you make a decision. Good luck

I'll just put another two cents in here. I've got more plugs than Carter's got little liver pills and, as it my profession, I'm quite aware of how to use them. What the fellers said above is certainly true regarding some "limitations" of these types of plugs. However...more and more I find myself reaching for my CLA sig package because Chris thought out how he could make his series bonehead easy to use yet still with tons of control over each aspect of the plug (i.e. compression, eq, verb, effects, etc...). The best advice (also given above...and if you have an iLok) is download and try before you buy.

Thanks to all of you "yorolpal"...wrote'' I've got more plugs than Carter's got little liver pills" We must be near the same age, and from the same area (KY or TN?). Ive heard that saying all my life (66yrs). (edit...oh Little Rock). I lived in Forrest City for a few years before being drafted. RE: The sig series.... I do mostly modern COUNTRY and Old R&B. Which would be your choice of the Sig Series for that? TGIF... Jeff

Then you might be happier with either the Eddie Kramer or JJP.

I have them as well and I've found that I get better results with individual plugs, eq for eq, comp for comp, etc. I guess it's as much of an art form as making music.
