When The House Burns Down

Any feedback on the overall sound quality, mix, and what I might do to make it better is appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

No high hat is that wide.  I found that distracting.  Song could use some dynamics.  Dude, you have the compression slammed.

When you say I have the compression "Slammed', what does that mean? Sorry, but i'm obviously still learning.

A good song and it sounds like everything was recorded nicely. If you notice the visual representation of your wav file on Soundcloud, it shows pretty much a solid blob with just one dip where the band stopped and there was just guitar there. Not much of a dip. The resulting sound kind of sounds like a good mix ran through a distortion box. If you're using something like Ozone4 to master this, you may want to back off on the loudness. If you're using that boost11 limiter you may want to try something else. A really cool song though and nicely performed, just a bit overcooked.

Ah... Okay, I see what you're saying. I think the culprit is probably the UAD Fatso Jr. plugin I put on the master bus. In my never ending quest to try and sound like The Replacements meets Oasis, I tend to lean towards the obnoxious :)  I really appreciate you guys taking the time to listen. I'm going to mess around and see if I can clean it up a bit. BTW, it's funny you mention Ozone4. I just picked that up this morning.

They summed it up pretty good.  Just needs some dynamics to give it some kick.

Hi Andy.  This is a really good song and good performance.  It has a kind of Pete Shelley sound and feel to me. I think the technical comments made in the previous comments will improve this song to give it a bit higher value DR.

Again, I thank everyone for the tips and ideas. I re-did the mix today and I think it's a lot closer. Below is the link if you want to check it out.
