Cakewalk VST Scan has stopped working

This is happening here with me - frustrating. I've tried to scan many times and it stops with no indication of which plug is hanging it up...

    a little more info..you say it hangs...does it give a message?..or just doesnt load?..how do you escape?

    Windows 8.1 X64 Sonar Platinum x64
    Custom built: Asrock z97 1150 - Intel I7 4790k - 16GB corsair DDR3 1600 - PNY SSD 220GB

    a little more info..you say it hangs...does it give a message?..or just doesnt load?..how do you escape?

    I get an alert box from Microsoft Windows: "Cakewalk VST Scan has stopped working"


    --> Check online for a solution
    --> Close the program


    or view problem details


    fault module name: ntdll.dll
    and a bunch of other things that I don't recognize

    When you say there's no indication of which plugin is causing it, what do you mean? If you watch the progress of the scanning window, it should give you a clue - in fact, when this has happened to me, the widow had hung shwoing which plugin it had got to. If it's not exactly right, the program appears to scan alphabetically, so you should be able to get close even if you can't tell exactly which one it is.

    I will try that - it scans and scans and then the windows alert pops up. Nothing relating to the scan is available. But maybe I can do as you did, and get close to identifying the problem vst.

    uncheck scan vst and leave re scan failed plug-ins ands that should sort it

    i dont think its a failed plug in..i think its trying to scan a plug thats not supposed to be scaned..ive gotten this error before when i scan a file with something other than a dll in it.
    was this install custom or did you just download sonar the normal way(let sonar place the files?)
