ProChannel Buss Comp For Mastering?

How many out there are using the buss Compressor in ProChannel for mastering? Just curious to know if anyone has found it of any use. I have experimented around with it just to see if I could possibly get as good a result doing that as opposed to inserting a brickwall limiter in the FX bin. Have had some mixed results doing so. Just curious to know. If you have had any good results, please, post some of your settings just as a reference for my further testing.

the pro channel offers "musical" compressiion on the busses that should be used in conjunction with brick walll limiters like the boost 11, NOT in place of them.  use bothh for best result.

    cheers!

I have been using Boost 11. I used Waves LA2A for so long I got addicted. Sadly, the version I have is DX and won't work in Sonar x64. Boost seems a little constricting sometimes. I have experimented around with the Sonitus Comp. Pretty good results and much more flexible with the extra controls. BTW, the Modern plugs work very nicely, although, a few of them tend to crash the program.

Google a little program called "DX Shell" to make your 32 bit DX and DXis work in SONAR 64 bit.

I'm sure you'll get loads of different takes on this. I'll give you mine for what it's worth. First, it's a good thing to never master inside of your project. Mix it and then export it as a wave file, then bring it back into Sonar or the software of your choice to master it.

As far as using Pro Channel, it can be done with good results but it's not something I like and here's why. When mastering, you need more control over frequencies. The PC eq does not allow for specific freqs to be adjusted other than what they give you via spinning the knob. I also do not like 1176 type compressors in the mastering chain because of their lack of options. The 4k bus compressor is the better bet for this, but my heart belongs to the API 2500 personally. I also am not a fan of Boost 11 (Sorry Cakewalk) because I think it dirties up way more than other limiters I use faster and brings forth artifacts. Compare Boost 11 to a Waves L-2 or PSP Xenon....to my ears there IS no competition. Boost 11 is useful in moderation, but I just don't like the sound of it compared to the others I've mentioned.
